That said I have no idea what players are worth, but like the doomster says, the market does. Just glad it's not my money.

Yeah but Deschamps is a dick who knows fuck all.

Koscielny is a great player. Best player in the Arsenal team. To be behind him in the pecking order in my opinion is OK.

What's this about us needing to sell a foreign player if we sign Mangala?

Mourinho says no more purchases after buying Felipe Luis from Atletico. That nails the idea that Chelsea want Mangala.

You have to feel for Atletico and Bayer Leverkusen. Win the league? Get dismantled by richer clubs. Final of the Champions League? Get dismantled by richer clubs.

Try to buy Verane now & see how much the asking price, It will be more than Mangala. The comparison should be with similar rated players.

If Mangala doesn't turn out better than Sakho, or any of Arsenal's centre backs, I agree it was too much.

this.

we are very much paying for potential with mangala, and he is rated much higher than any of those players when they were purchased. he's 23 and has a lot of the right attributes to be a quality centre back.

are we overpaying a bit? sure, but cb's are not cheap now because of how difficult they are to get. if it works out we could have one of the best combination of central defenders in the world.

last close season folks were concerned about overpaying for fernandinho. sometimes it's also the club you are dealing with, and perhaps also all of the 3rd party ownership issues with mangala as well.

We're buying a CB partner for Kompany. Even if Mangala isn't the best CB around, he may well compliment VK so well that they become the best pair in the world.

We need to be able to defend better against teams that hit us on the break, we also need 2 football playing CBs. No doubt we know exactly why we're buying him

Boredom. Lack of a personal life. Faux irritation for the sake of potentially interesting wind up banter.

Just a few ideas.

I'll just give Pellers a call shall I? Or text the owner of Porto? I'm sure they'll all be happy to divulge the intricate details of a multi-million pound business transaction to me seeing as I'm a member of mancityfans.net and i'll fill you all in asap.

I may be wrong, but I imagine the so called 'hold up' is due to the player being on holiday & us not wanting to finalise the deal til he gets back, so we can do the full bifters transfer thing, rather than have Porto announce it to the stockio exchangio like they did with Fernando.

all jokes aside, the rumour is that the delay is primarily due to third party ownership issues.

he has agreed to join from what we understand, and already had his medical.

with chelsea announcing they are done with signings (unless that's a mourinho mind game) hard to see him going anywhere else.

I have no issues with the price tag, we're paying for potential and physical attributes that cannot be coached, like the fact he's built like a tank and has pace. Koscielney might only have been 8m but a fee doesn't always represent a players ability! Kompany was even cheaper than that so clearly can't be as good as him!

1. It is not yet confirmed that we have signed him
2. It is not yet confirmed what the fee is/will be
3. It is not yet confirmed (or rumoured) how the fee will be structured, such as performance/appearance elements to make sure we get value for money
4. He has been tracked by City for some time, like Fernandinho and Fernando were, which suggests he is being recruited because he is seen as a good fit
5. We have not yet seen him play in the role and with the defensive partners that Manuel has planned for him

On that basis, I think it is fair to conclude at this stage that he is overpriced ;-)
