Time for Zaba to be demoted to second choice. Sagna is better.

I think we need to see more of Sagna before making sweeping statements like this

He's been playing in the PL for years. Nothing new to see, he's a brilliant defender, much better than Zabaleta.

Except sagna now runs like he is dragging a lodestone behind him. Haven't seen a slower fullback on the turn since Corluka.

I don't watch other games or teams so haven't seen anything of him, from what I have seen so far I would start Zab ahead of him.

zabba is a city legend (imho) who has always proved his worth, and is by no means past it. he can have some mistakes, because usually he gives us quite the opposite.

sagna is a fine backup, not a replacement.

Zabba is below par this season defensively, but stil having an effect getting forward.

I think it's down to having no cover last season, & the World Cup. Should be fine next season.

Sagna has done well recently imo but Zabba is Zabba & he's a talisman for the team. Made at least as many mistakes as Clichy though, but people don't want to see faults in him.

Still, he will turn in some big performances if we go on a title winning run, as will Yaya. Bank on it. Two Champs.

Problem is for all the fullbacks, you can't expect them to sprint the length of the pitch in attack, then get back and be fully on it immediately. As much as I'm critical of Kolarov part of his problems may be that he's a lot bigger than Clichy or Zaba and needs a lot more recovery time, hence the wandering back.

If you want overlapping full backs, the wide midfielders and the defensive midfielder have to be willing to fill in. That's a particular problem on the left, where we haven't got a natural winger and none of the central midfielder are left footed and hence tend to drift the other way. Makes it exciting, but we're always at risk on the counter, hence why Chelsea are better at attacking and defending than we are ;-)

I think Mangala's left footed isn't he? I agree with you that full back is arguably the most demanding position on the pitch these days. As for Zaba he can be incredibly effective going forward but he has made numerous defensive howlers this season including one yesterday. Sagna looks better defensively but not as good going forward. I still think he's a damn good back up right back.

Didn't know where else to put this. Cool picture of Pablo and Messi 10 years ago:

"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

Pablo has his work cut out to get back into the side, Sagna has been very very good so far.
