#MCFC signing of Fernando from Porto is also done. Only a question of when clubs choose to announce it. Mangala situation remains unclear

Delighted. Fernando will make a huge difference both to the defence and, in giving Fernandinho and Yaya more freedom to go forward,in attack. We do need to replace Lescott and get a new reserve keeper as well. After that we may keep an eye out for possibilities but we're done. Dzeko needs to have his contract extended and if Milner can be persuaded to stay that would be great. Richards is surely gone.

i am guessing that when people say the signing allows either fernandinho or yaya to move forward we mean with one of the other on the bench, or subbed late for in matches (taking garcia's place)?

'cause most games it does not seem we have played 3 centre midfielders...

unless we are looking to fully incorporate a 4-3-3 formation, with nasri, aguero and silva as had been mentioned by tixi when he came in.

it certainly awards us more flexibility to do so even if we stay with a 4-4-2 mostly.

it certainly does help when yaya heads off for the african nations again this year.

I think we will play 4-3-3 against top teams in the CL and in difficult away matches in the League. You simply can't play 2 in central midfield against the likes of Barcelona. We didn't buy this guy to bench Fernandinho or Yaya although it will make it easier to rotate in central midfield to avoid either of our existing two playing too many matches. Garcia will clearly get less game time next season even though he improved in the second half of last season. Fernando covers the ground far more effectively than he does. Yaya keeps saying he'll consider retiring from international football after the World Cup so let's hope he actually does.

That's not what I mean when I've said it. I'm talking about Yaya as an attacking mid or No10 & those two doing the central mid job.

Actually in the end of season discussion on Sky, Souness etc were saying we should play Yaya further forward, as he's such a handful & also that we will will HAVE to do that before long, because otherwise his career will come to a premature end, as he's too old to continue doing the job we currently ask him to, year in year out. They recon it will finish him.

Fernandinho is also a more attacking player than we see for City. At Shakhtar, he had a DeJong/Barry type geezer sitting behind him whilst he built attacks & ran forward at pace. He fucked up Chelsea playing like that.

We could have Fernando looking after the defence, then let both Yaya & Fernandinho go forward to join any combination of front 3.

Doubt we'd do that v Norwich, but v Chelsea, Arse etc, it gives us a very powerful, quick, moblile attacking and defending midfield.

Whichever way you slice it there'll be games when we will play 1 up top next season ie Fernando Fernadinho Yaya Silva Nasri and probably Aguero. Whether you call a more advanced Yaya in the centre of the pitch a central midfielder is a matter of words but in effect Yaya would be expected to help deal with breakaways higher up the pitch as well as go on those irresistible runs of his and pick out great passes. The difference is he wouldn't be exposed in our half to fast moving midfielders bursting towards him. He can't cope with that very well. Fernando can and does. It's his job and he's great at it with his telescopic octopus legs. It's a great signing.

Ha ha telescopic octopus legs. That's a handy physical attribute to have in football

There's a picture doing the rounds on Twitter from an angle that shows behind the shirt printing counter. All set out on one of the shelves at the front is his name, ready to print.

Imminent.
