Agreed. His mate was worse (allegedly) and the emails were private. That said, what a dick.
I don't expect to be held to that standard but, equally, I wouldn't use a work email/private email accessible by colleagues for conversations that were anything other than quasi-professional. And I don't earn £500,000 per year plus bonus (or whatever).
