Milner Asks to Leave?

The Gruniard are reporting that Milner has asked to leave and is interesting Arsenal and Liverpool. Now there are no quotes in this article so I can't be arsed to reproduce it (plus I'm on the phone app), but they whitter on about the FFP ruling & how we can't do without him as we are shipping out most of our 'local' eligible players leaving us with Hart & having to offer contracts to Boyata & Richard Wright. We also don't seem to have enough wriggle room to buy Fernando, Mangala and Sagna - should we just give it all up now...fucking bastard press at it again, it's going to be a long Summer isn't it...

Sad news but dont blame him one bit.

Said on here weeks ago that if I was him Id want out. Been chronically underused by us & wrongly parked wide when hes a cent midf by trade, which is where he excelled at Villa.

Hes had Vieira preferred to him in Cent midf, Garcia preferred over him & even Rodwell at times. His omission at Anfield plain daft, & when he came on he changed the game but it encapaulated his city career - played well, just not often enough.

Hes got all the medals now but at 28 he will just want to play & do so in cent midf. It wont be about money at all, just about opportunities. Hes been omitted from 2 FA Cup Finals, a Cap One Final and 2 title deciders. He played the Sund, WBA, Palace, Everton & Villa games but again was left out vs West Ham.

Will be gutted to see him go but its sadly understandable.

I have contacts, direct to JM and he has told them 'he is leaving MCFC'.

He's been a great squad player and has worked very hard to be in the starting 11.

I understand his frustrations but not sure I want him at the Gooners or the Dippers?

We will do well to find an equal/better replacement. Hope Tixi is doing his homework NOW!

Not sure what to make of this.... I saw an article in the mirror earlier that had one very ambiguous quote.

This is the link to the article http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... er-3557218?

Personally think losing Milner will be a big loss for us. Not many of his ilk about! Can only hope this is old news as far as the club are concerned and a replacement is already in place.... If this is all true of course,

Whenever he has been used from the off he has underperformed more often than not - if he wants first team action then he should go as he wont get it here nor would he get it at another top 4 team IMO, he just does not perform on a consistent basis when he starts.

that's why I said hopefully it's old news for the club and therefore something they've know about for a while rather than them finding out at the same time us fans do. Assuming they've known for a while there may well be a replacement lined up. Hope Milner would be decent enough to not just drop it on the club.

Milner wants out? That's the equivalent of Ringo Starr wanting to leave The Beatles.

I'd hold onto him until his contract runs out; and in the meantime give him more opportunities to shine in central midfield.
He's probably the one player we can't afford to leave as he gives Zaba solid protection on the right flank, when the going gets tough.

Given that we're committed to signing a CB, RB, and DM, we can't afford to lose a solid backup; especially one like Milner who can always be relied upon to put in a solid shift.

But Pellegrini's given him opportunities at CM and he's failed to grasp them; also, he's not a DM, which is a specialist position - and a disciplined one - so he's only ever going to start regularly in either position by excelling whenever he's being started there.
And we all know that he's been like the proverbial rabbit in the headlights when started at CM.

At Villa, he was surrounded by inferior players, and his idea of playing CM was running through the middle, with the ball at his feet.
That's not what the CM position is about.

Even if he doesn't sign a new contract, I hope we run down his contract to see us over this FFP hump.

I wouldn't like him to leave, he's been a great pro., but this is not the time for our fringe players to jump ship.

Agreed with this. He also got opportunities at CM under Mancini and never pulled up trees.

He's been underused but not criminally so, and his 2,322 minutes this season across all competitions is the equivalent of about 26 full 90-minute games. You'd like to think the opportunity to win things every season would be worth more than a few additional games at one of our rivals.

If he goes to Liverpool, a central midfield of himself and an aging Gerrard would be completely fucking bossed by Yaya-Fernandinho-Fernando. Great servant to the club, but be careful what you wish for, James.

Agree too.

He was brought back into the starting line-up for the last few games of the season, and played very well. Then was dropped for the last game. As that's not the first time that's happened, and coupled with the fact he's won plenty of medals now, it's understandable that he'll consider other options.

I hope we can persuade him to stay, or at least keep him for another season and then he can leave next year. Quite a few of our 'homegrown' contingent will be leaving this summer so it's in our interests to keep him also to meet the quotas in place.

He's one of my favourite players, so I'd be upset to see him leave. That said, we should thank him for his contribution and let him go if it's what he really wants. The smart thing to do would be to see who's interested in signing him and think about whether any of those players have an English player we could do with. If we could use him as a makeweight in a deal for Barkley or Lallana, great (though I doubt Milner would be interested in playing for Soton).

I don't think he's leaving. Didn't he make some comment about talking to the club (about a new contract) after the world cup? It would be just like some low IQ lazy fat arsed journalist to take it out of context and assume he was saying he would ask to leave after the world cup.

Was a decent signing, but grossly overpriced. If we could get £10M for him, it would be great business. Will never be a regular starter because he simply doesn't perform well enough consistently, barring the odd game or cameos off the bench. We will look to add more quality during this window, making it more difficult for Milner (and others). Priority will be a CD (hope we can do better than Mangala, who frankly looks no better that what we already have). I can see Milner moving on as he knows he will never be a regular starter and can get more time elsewhere.

Been ok for us but I suspect won't be missed at all.

Frees up the number 7 shirt for a cheeky bid for Ronaldo.

I don't think he could be hung up on his chances in the team he has had 44 appearances in all competitions this season.Only seven other players have featured more often than him.

He may not be a key player like Yaya,Zaba etc but he's still an important player in the team.
