21 man Champions League Squad

"Manchester City accepts that for the duration of the settlement it will be subject to a limitation on the number of players that it may include on the “A” list for the purposes of participation in UEFA competitions. Specifically, for season 2014/15 Manchester City may only register a potential maximum of 21 players on the “A” list, instead of the potential maximum of 25 as foreseen in the relevant competition regulations. If MC manages to comply with the annual break-even target the club shall be released from the restriction as regards the registration of players in UEFA club competitions for the 2015/16 season."

Does this mean that are only permitted to name 13 'foreign' players in our Champions League squad?

Well if it does:
Zabaleta
Kolarov
Kompany
Nastasic
Demichelis
Yaya
Fernandinho
Garcia
Navas
Nasri
Silva
Aguero
Dzeko
Jovetic

That's 14, not a big miss to lose one of those is it?

Sagna I think counts as home grown, as does clichy.
Problem comes with Fernando and Mangela if we sign them, although I reckon if we do, Nastasic might go.

If you're right the we've been shafted big time. Fuck the financial sanctions this is what will screw us over the most.

Sagna doesn't count as homegrown but Nasty qualifies for the B list next season.

I'm pretty sure he can be counted after spending 7 years in the UK, he is counted as home grown via a sort of naturalisation process. Dunno the technicalities behind it, but all the papers seem to say he is counted as homegrown too

We don't know the answer to this homegrown quota yet as far as I can tell.

Uless someone has seen a recent definitive statement from the club or OAFA ?

We can't trust the media to have it right unless the quote a source.

LOL, Ted. What the fuck do you think UEFA are doing to us today? 8 'homegrowns' is what will be expected.

I'll believe that when I see it.

Why should non UK players be punished ahead of locals ? It's not their fault City have broken the rules, what right do UEFA have to make Jovetic miss out on the Champions League as opposed to Milner or Rodwell ?

One thing to reduce the squad size, another to force certain players to be punished.

Now, that's fighting talk if ever I heard it.

Looks like of the 21 players in the CL squad only 4 have to be 'home grown'.

I've just had a look around, & it seems to be the case that if in normal circumstances you can only field 21 players, only a total of 4 have to be either club trained or 'home league' trained, as opposed to 4 in each catagory if you have a full squad of 25.

IF, we have that right, then, as suggested on the OS, UEFA's sanctions will basically make no fucking difference whatsoever.

Result.

Looks like it's costing us 20 million Euros to join the club.

That means only 2 "free spots" (and that's not including Micah and Rodwell) which are probably both defenders. But i don't know about the young player rule thing.

so if we only have to have 4 then Nasti, HArt, Milner, Clichy count as the 4

Nasti isn't homegrown he is B list. Boyata is homegrown, might be why we are trying to negotiate his continued stay?

Would make a lot of sense for Panti's replacement to be homegrown.

The B list is unlimited.

This sanction affects us hardly at all. We haven't used 21 players in the last 2 efforts.

He can't be counted mate, homegrown means the player has to have spent at least three years registered to a club in England or Wales before his 21st birthday.

Shows you how much research the press do.

18.16 Each club is entitled to register an unlimited number of players on List B
during the season. The list must be submitted by no later than 24.00 CET on
the day before the match in question.
18.17 A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 1991 (soon 92)
and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted
period of two years since his 15th birthday by the time he is registered with
UEFA. Players aged 16 may be registered on List B if they have been
registered with the participating club for the previous two years without
interruption.
