Tony Coton was a top keeper. Can't think why but he never gets much praise.

Brilliant keeper but can't say he wasn't appreciated; won City Player of the Year award in both the 1991–92 and 1993–94 seasons.

Can't say he's forgotten by the City Execs but maybe to some non-Americans. Claudio Reyna!

Coton was gonna be my shout, but now I'll settle for michael ball.

Was a class above what we had at lb at the time and had a few moment a of quality in there.

Asa Hartford. One of the the best and most consistent players to pull on the shirt. Probably the most underated player ever. Not shy on scoring the odd goal either!

Willie Donachie was just about the best left back in the league for a number of years. Another top player who seems to go under the radar when talking about previous City players.

Gerard Wiekens. Cultured player who was an excellent servant of the club in some dark times.

Also had a unique record in that in his 6 seasons at City he always played in a different division each year

1997/8 - Relegated to League 2 (League 1 as it is now)
1998/9 - Promoted to League 1 (p/offs)
1999/00 - Promoted to Prem
2000/01 - Relegated to League1
2001/02 - Promoted to Prem
2002/03 - Played in Prem again and left

A rather unique City career, at a time when the club was up and down like a whores knickers on a sailors payday.

He had a rather unique career overall. He only played for two clubs, Veendam and City. After his years with City he went back to Veendam and played there for another 5 seasons.

Mettomo was ace. Then I think he fell out with KK about playing for Cameroon and he lost his place in the team

Bloody hell. That's two of us who didn't slag him off all game, every game

Thanks Patrick, we're still in a minority, I suppose, but it's nice to know I wasn't the only one who valued him.

David Oldfield. Partnered Tricky Trefor for a while and scored in the 5-1 v Rags at Maine Road. Beautifully kept blonde hair. Reminded me a bit of Tony Adcock as a striker. Scored a hatrick in the 10-1 v Huddersfield when Andy May returned to Maine Road. Both pretty rank strikers but had their moments in games.

You didn't think about your name sake? As a kid idolised him (& Joe Corrigan), during his first stint with the club.

We had no pace at all that season (Pearce), he came along and I remember watching him blitz a full back and I thought our prayers were answered. We all knew he had glass knees and wouldn't last, played 20 games, scored 1. Moved to the middle east and played 13 more games then hung up his boots.

Thanks for the memories. That goal was Vs Scum but we lost 3-1 anyway.
