... but go somewhere else and become ace.

Reading about Savic got me thinking about Boateng (who wasn't garbage but was very much dispensable). Which players are the best examples of this irritating phenomenon?

Off the top of my head, Jon Dahl Tomasson. Woeful at Newcastle, top at Feyenoord and Milan.

Bizarre that he couldn't get a game for Cleverley being in his way. I'm not sure he looked garbage, though. I'm pretty sure he was always considered a good prospect.

Not sure you can count a highly rated teenage prospect who hadn't really broken into the team yet as an example tbh

Gervinho's pre and post-Arsenal career is pretty astonishing in comparison. He's even sorted his barnet out. Kind of.

Ricky van Wolfswinkel is just an awesome name, if he was good at football as well pundits and commentators would be talking about him all the time, the name would be used too much and lose it's defined level of "awesome". He is crap at football so people can enjoy his name.

But aren't they the world's best at nurturing talent? That's what they tell us.

Fair comment though.

Does it count to have players who seem to have done this whilst at the same club? In which case Ramsey and Koscielny ....

In the same vein I'd say Drogba or "Drogshit" as he was affectionately known in the early Chelsea days.

Randomly this thread made me think of sibierski.... 50p head for us who couldn't buy a goal, signs for Newcastle and becomes shearer for a season.

Forlan is the ultimate though.
