Brought to my attention by Brian Carroll, 100 year old former MCFC, Gateshead & Accrington Stanley player Harry Clark MBE has died (4/1/14).

He played for the Blues during the second world war with official stats showing that he played 8 games and scored one goal (against Manchester United on 7/11/42).

Looking at City's stats there is some confusion between several Clark/Clarkes playing for City at that time and it may be that some of his games have been incorrectly recorded in official records in the past under the name Clarke (even the Guardian report of his goal in the Manc derby shows him as Clarke) or confusing him with Gordon Clark. Nevertheless he did appear for City in at least 8 games during the war.

He lived an interesting life and during his final years he was an active campaigner for environmental issues in the north-east.

RIP

Not even the death of one of John68s' childhood heroes is enough to bring him back.
