Who do you think could partner komp at the back who is realistically obtainable? Obviously not someone who is too old or getting there, but not some kid either like nasti who has been found out.

My concern is whether Komps can actually go any length of time without getting injured!

I wouldn't mind either of Cahill or Jagielka.
But my no.1 would be Tottenhams Vertonghen.

Vertonghen would be a quality signing and he would be available to play champions league.Whoever we get has to be available for Cl so it would make him a great option.
Vermaelen has been talking up a move as he wants regular football ahead of the world cup.I really rate him as a player but his injury record is worse than Vinces.

cahill isn't a bad shout. he ain't bad in the box and he doesn't make that many howlers that i've seen anyway. chelesa got him for cheap too, I doubt he would leave cheala for us though tbh. We'd have to pay silly money for him and his wages.
can't comment on much jagielka either tbh.

Cahill and Jagielka aren't good enough for where we want to be and Spurs would try and make us pay about 40m or sumat for Vertonghen so i doubt any of these will happen. I suspect it'll be some younger defender from abroad. The next superstar as opposed to a half decent established premiership one.

Hummels
However, our best moments were when Vinnie was with Lesco, when we changed that, all went to crap. Hummels will be a huge amount of money.
I would take a close eye on Lovren.

Not seen much of Mangela but the others mentioned are no better than what we have already imo.
Vertonghen is the absolute opposite of what we require imo. No pace not great in the air, ok in possession= same problem. He would be arse raped 1v1 over & over again in our team. We would have to bring Barry back to protect him.
Hummels & Subotic are useless when exposed to quality forwards as well, same with Cahill Jagielka. Great with a five man midfield to protect them, dogshit on their own.
We need someone who can face up to a Sturridge or Robben 1v1 & have a good chance of stopping them, because the way we play, that is going to happen.

You may laugh but we need a young Kolo Toure to be honest. At his best he was very fast and great at sweeping up behind a bigger centre back.

I think we need an all-rounder ... decent pace, strength, heading ability, ok with ball at feet, doesn't shit himself 1v1 ... but above all that has to have the positioning aspect down pat. In Nasti we have some sort of proto-all rounder, but he lets himself down with his positioning in the line every time. I don't follow defenders of other teams enough to know who might have this quality, but to me it's the absolute most essential thing to being a defender.

I think we'd need to spend big money
Its our week spot and any club with sense will exploit us
Hummells, subotic or vertongen would improve us massively
Whilst we're buying defenders though, should we just sit back and accept the rags are buying baines???

I liked Caulker last season, Young enough and decent on the ball. I would like to see Rodwell maybe adapting to that type of role, Vinny has done it. Maybe he is a centre back very good on the ball and has the bite to win his battles. Ramos/or any of two at the back at Athletico M. The engineer is on it.
