Munich Anniversary Derby

Just watching it on BT Sport. We won 2-1 with a front line of Benjani and Vassell, Hamann anchoring in midfield with Gelson Fernandes and Ball and Onuoha were fullbacks. How things have changed. Ball put in two crosses that day which were better than any cross Clichy has ever made for us!

Mind you we were brilliant that day. Our players really, really rose to the occasion. Petrov when he turned it on really was outstanding. Frightening pace and an outstanding crosser. He set up both goals that day. Dunne and Distin also had great games and kept Ronaldo and Tevez quiet.
Great day.

Doesn't feel six years ago does it?
Unfortunately after that we slumped , only winning 3 games after that and the rest is history.

OK I'll bite. Distin man of the match that day, dominant and commanding performance the likes of which Garcia and Lescott couldn't have given if they were trying their hardest.

More in reference to the fishing comment above my own...
However, with my tongue now removed from my cheek, it really doesn't feel like that long ago and it is amazing how far we have come even from that era (not to mention the awful season preceding that one and the torrid late 90s). I wouldn't be looking to swap Ball for Clichy in a hurry though

After that game we were still looking good for a 4th placed finish. We only won 3 games for the rest of the season.
Me neither regarding Ball but I actually think he did a good job for us overall.

He'll have done exceptionally well to be MOTM for us well after his transfer to Pompey.

Could Garcia and Lescott perform like they weren't there? (OK so that was the other half of my motivation for the "I'll bite" comment)

I suggest the OP watch the away game at Wolves in the title-winning season.

Did I say that? Because I'm pretty sure I didn't.

Petrov scored that day. I still think Benj didn't touch the ball!

Absolutely brilliant goal. Must have passed the OP by. Maybe he was a Chelsea fan at the time.

Someone's a bit sensitive. It was a tongue in cheek comment. Clichy's a very good player but I'm sure most would agree he needs to work on his crossing as does Zabs. That goal against Wolves was a really good ball, I don't see your point though? His crossing needs improving, one great cross two seasons ago does not mean he is a great crosser. he gets into great positions and then usually hits the first man or passes the ball back. Just watching the highlights I saw Ball put in two really good crosses that day at a good height and right into the danger zone. I'm obviously not saying Ball was better than Clichy. I shouldn't even have to justify that.

But this wasn't even close to a slagging off Clichy thread.
He's a top quality player and first and foremost he's a reliable defender but like all our players he has areas he can improve on.

This has gone totally off topic.

It was better than the balls Ball put in.

Probably, it was a tongue in cheek comment. In fact having just looked at that goal against Wolves, it was brilliaint play by Clichy ,i'd say that was more of a through ball/ pass than a cross. Ball's were more like 'crosses' into the box.
Normally though his crossing isn't the best.

Not sure how that makes me a Chelsea fan though

Go about 6 minutes in, definitely not a 'cross'
