'disgrace' Manchester United fans
by Dan Coombs
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini had an unpleasant experience at Old Trafford.
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini visited Old Trafford for the first time as City boss on Monday night, as he went to undertake a scouting mission on the Red Devils ahead of their September meeting.
But he will have left with a memory of a disconcerting pre-game experience, after being pelted with missiles by United fans who recognised him.
The Guardian reported:
"Manuel Pellegrini, the new Manchester City manager, needed the intervention of stewards and security officials after missiles were thrown at him before Manchester United's game against Chelsea.
"Pellegrini was at the match to compile a report on United in preparation for the first Manchester derby of the season, on 22 September at the Etihad Stadium, but had to take shelter after being recognised when he got out of his car.
"The incident was dealt with quickly and Pellegrini has told City he does not want to take it any further. He also stated he was happy with the way the Old Trafford stewards looked after him."
The incident led to Manchester City legend Franny Lee condeming United fans as a 'disgrace' on Twitter, and recounting his own similar tale.

Nice to see Pellegrini was treated with great respect at the entrance to Old Trafford. #Plebs threw objects at him when he arrived. Disgrace

I was Old Trafford for Sky TV years ago & I was rocked out of a taxi & spat on by a number of #plebs. They never change...

Cont... That day I had to borrow a #MUFC directors blazer for the broadcast as my suit jacket wasn't fit for purpose. #plebs
