David Platt has revealed that Manchester City had planned to replace goalkeeper Joe Hart with Stoke City's Asmir Begovic this summer.
The former City assistant manager reportedly told Al Jazeera: 'If Mancini and I were still at Man City this year Joe Hart wouldn't be there. We made a decision to sign Asmir Begovic.'
Platt followed Roberto Mancini out of the club in May after the Italian was sacked exactly one year after lifting the Premier League title.

Stoke City's Asmir Begovic???

You got to be kidding me, no way he is as good as Hart, Hart has been very unreliable of late i agree but Begovic?
No thanks, it is signings like this that got him the boot.

What a load of bullshit that paper spouts. 'He reportedly told Al Jazeera', who is this guy?

It's from his interview last week and Platt mentioned that he liked Begovic (like most do) but we had Joe. This has then been misquoted and used this morning to have a go at our under pressure keeper.

Hart's better than Begovic, no question, so this was never going to happen. But over the summer a mate of mine who was a goalkeeper in amateur football for ten years said that Hart's poor form would get him dropped early in the season, that he'd then ask for a transfer, and be at ManU or Arsenal by the time the next transfer window opens. Sounded like a daft prediction at the time, maybe not so unlikely now.

I wondered how long it would take that odious little prick to start talking shit about City.

I am all in favour of signing a strong number 2 to rival Hart but to suggest we were going to sell him and replace him with Begovic is just silly.

If Mancini really did not rate Hart and planned to sell him why did he play him in the FA Cup final?

Fake quotes. Platt himself has come out and said its bullshit.

Pity, I'd take Begovic over Hart.

Anyone can have a bad spell, but he's been poor since the start of last season. His golden gloves had a lot to do with the defence and whilst he's part of that, I'd like to see what percentage of shots he's saved over the last season compared to a lot of other keepers. At the start of last season he seemed unlucky in that he let in a lot of unstoppable shots. But they can't all be unstoppable. Add in the flapping and distribution and he really needs to sort himself out.
