Holistic

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Holistic

Postby Florida Blue » Thu May 16, 2013 3:21 pm

Definition of HOLISTIC
1: of or relating to holism
2: relating to or concerned with wholes or with complete systems rather than with the analysis of, treatment of, or dissection into parts <holistic medicine attempts to treat both the mind and the body> <holistic ecology views humans and the environment as a single system>
— ho·lis·ti·cal·ly \-ti-k(ə-)lē\ adverb

I would call this pompous diciton. This is one of those words that keeps getting kicked around of late amongst corporations, it is at best laughable, and IMO totally vague. You would think with all the negative press this was bringing they would have chosen their words more wisely. I get they are implying they want to create a culture from the top to bottom and bottom to top, and we have seen this physically with the purchase of the stadium and the surrounding land to create a destination spot for more than just matches and training.

The USA, while not using such an ambiguous, decided this is how Klinsman would do things. Clearly the top USA players are not developed, outside of goalkeeping. And it will take time here as they have to figure out how to properly train kids for what it takes. It will be a long while.

Not to digress, are City going to keep pumping money into buying the Iscos, Cavanis, Rueses, etc while spending the money to develop homegrown talent (and does that mean local lads or will they be importing 12 year olds from Spain)? If that is the ulimate plan, win now, and develop a prudent way to win in the future, I get it and I like. I do not know whether or not the rumours are true that Mancini never set foot near the academy, but I wonder if this was presented to him and he balked or it was just a quick decision he would not be on board. I know the CV of Pellegrini says he has a tremendous history of working with youth players, and maybe that is what was needed to be line with the changes.

All I know is I am excited to see where this goes. I feel for those of you who feel betrayed or cheated (or even Chelski-like) by the events of the past week. I was excited as all of you when we won the FA Cup in 2011 and of course May 13th of last year, and like all of you this year was a disappointment of sorts by not winning any silverware, but successful in the sense we have a lot to look forward to over the summer with the silly season upon us, the new manager, the "new/old" approach, the Champions League, a new manager to hate at Un***d (not that we liked him before) to name a few.

I guess I have come full circle to get to this question, but is it possible to have a holisitc approach like Barca has in this day and age? I am hopeful, but a bit concerned it may not work like they hope because of the changes going on in the game, FFP, etc. And if it doesn't work do we become everything we are being accused of? A club of hired guns?

Financial advisers used to have to pass an exam titled 'Holistic Financial Planning' to get their chartered status. Dunno ifnthey still do, but if you ever have a financial adviser in your house or office who says the word holistic, kick the cunts out.

Bang on about holistic planning, the only thing holistic about it is they try to flog you anything to make them money and justify it with this fancy term. 99% of the cunts dont even know what it means.

And I always thought it meant a naughty happy ending massage as its always mentioned in the therapist's ads in paper or online that they use a holistic approach to your well being ...

So footballing equivalent I guess is they all want to have a wank fest together perhaps ... didn't want Mancini having all the fun by himself!

Yup, and in my experience corporates use words like this when they don't want to give the real reason. Or when they are too far up themselves to use ordinary language.

Old fart that I am, I wonder what Skip thinks of such language.

I love the fact that they are using this business jargon in relation to football. Makes us sound that bit better than everyone else and certainly gives a tone that this sacking serves some greater purpose us normal retards don't understand.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
