Liverpool Poach More City Scouts

Scanning through NewsNow I came across this piece regarding more of our scouting staff moving to the Dippers. That's 4 ex-City staff moved across now and the little spin puts it down to us only looking at expensive established players. However, I do wonder if this comes inline with what Mancini perceived to be a terrible window, the arrival of the Spaniards and the lateral move for Brian Marwood?

Also, how can we afford to lose so many scouts when we are banking on our Academy for the future?

Thoughts?

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers boosted by arrival of two new scouts from Manchester City

Liverpool have recruited two more senior scouts from Manchester City.

Last summer, Liverpool lured Dave Fallows as head of recruitment and scouting while Barry Hunter also joined as a chief scout. The pair had also worked together at the Etihad Stadium.

They will now be joined at Anfield by Andy Sayer and Kevin Hunt, who have been key members of Manchester City’s scouting network in recent years. Sayer had responsibility for monitoring players in Germany, Holland and Scandinavia.

Hunt made 282 appearances for League of Ireland side Bohemians prior to moving into scouting.

A number of City scouts have been understood to be frustrated at the club’s policy of largely targeting well-known, big-money signings, while the latest arrivals at Anfield are part of the ongoing revamp of Liverpool’s recruiting staff.

Last month, managing director Ian Ayre explained how Liverpool were adopting a more collaborative approach to transfers.

Essentially, the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, want safeguards to ensure no individual has too much power to buy and sell without a more thorough vetting process.

There is a view at the club that under successive regimes, going back over a decade, the power of the manager has been too absolute on occasions, leading to a lack of due diligence on players and bad decisions in the transfer market.

FSG believes the more eyes and ears there are assessing a player, the better. This will also ensure the club never favours particular agents or agencies.

However, this does create the possibility that even if manager Brendan Rodgers is adamant he wants a particular player, it could be blocked if there is no broad consensus among the committee reporting to the owners.

Rodgers has remained firm in his view he will have the final say and will not have any players he does not want. He has accepted, however, some of his choices could be rejected by the board.

The Liverpool manager says this — and the notion of a ‘committee’ – is no different to the principles at most clubs, where the manager has a support network around him but must work within budget.

Rodgers said: “We have a number of people, scouting staff and analysts, who will look for targets who fit the profile of the players that we want.”

The £12 million pursuit of Swansea City’s Ashley Williams this summer is, in many respects, perceived as a test case because while the manager is clearly keen to pursue the player there are younger alternatives being observed by the scouting team.

There is a thread on bluemoon, which describes how the journalists actually hold group discussions to find ways to undermine City. As much as our club has succeeded in various fields, we have failed to come down hard on the rag-media twats. I think banning a few mediapersons from Mancini's press interviews should be a start.

Seems to me we have to buy players because the scouts haven't found any new stars.

But the basic principle is you dont normally lose people you want to keep. So cheers boys.

If they were that important we'd hardly be letting them go. Maybe the players they've scouted in the past have simply not been good enough to get into our first-team squad. I'm sure players of a similar quality will be more than good enough for the dippers mid-table franchise.

I'm not sure if this thread was more about media bias but it is interesting that there is a pack mentality when it comes to reporting anything City. You only have to look at the headlines when it comes to us compared to another team like United.

I've mentioned in another thread that we just have to suck it up at the moment, our time will come.

Yep agree with that mate. I've had a pop at our execs for being silent but I'm sure we've got mind-blowing ways to deal with this FFP shite. They just wont say anything because whatever we plan those twats from United, Arsenal, Bayern, Real, Barcelona and Milan times 2 will try and get it banned.

If they were the ones who scouted Sinclair, is it any wonder?

As above, if City really wanted and needed them, do you think Liverpool could have taken them anyway?

I am talking about media bias, is because the story is again taking a dig at us.

Is there even a source for this statement: A number of City scouts have been understood to be frustrated at the club’s policy of largely targeting well-known, big-money signings.

btw, are these the scouts who scouted Kompany?

I know where you're coming from mate. With regard to things getting out to the media, it's rather telling that it's all gone very very quiet. I wonder why that is?

I don't think banning a few cunts would do us any good,I think the fuckers might just gang up like they do and write more shit about us.Just play the fuckers at their own game

Going back to Beefy's OP

The way I see it is, these scouts are probably not direct employees of the club as such, probably on retainers "consultants" as it were?

I suspect that Txiki & Ferran probably already have their own world wide network that they trust.

All part of what they were brought into do IMO & given where they have come from I rather reckon the calibre of scout will be higher.

Certainly would be better than a chap who used to play footie in Ireland & the other whose career was spent playing no higher than the English third tier (Fulham at the time).

How do you achieve that? Can you be a bit more specific?

Try and get the fuckers on the payroll, come out with stories to discredit the rubbish they spout, have our own media department that puts out the publicity we want.I think people who got paid to do it would come up with better ideas than me but I don't think banning a load of twats would do us any favvours.

Exactly. If these guys were so good then there's no way that our hierarchy would have let them waltz off to Liverpool.

Sucking it up hasn't worked. I understand why the owners have applied a no retaliation policy but we need to start banning them because the quieter the club has been, the louder they have gotten.

And some slow cunts on here still can't see it.

Why was it reported in the media that the whiskey-sodden cunt got fined and fani banned if they never want any bad news about them released.

They can have the scouts, I'm sure we have plenty more.
I'd be more worried if Liverpool were taking our potential signings.
