Can't say I'm surprised but he did look very forlorn on the touch-line. He looked like an old man that nobody cared about, shouting endlessly to nobody who'd listen. I've never liked O'Neill but for one second there I felt a little sorrow in my heart.
Martin O'Neill: Sunderland 'part company' with manager
Relegation-threatened Sunderland have announced they have "parted company" with manager Martin O'Neill.
After a 1-0 defeat by Manchester United on Saturday, the Black Cats sit one point above the Premier League relegation zone with seven games left.
Sunderland are without a victory in eight matches and have won only two points out of 24 during that spell.
A successor to the 61-year-old, who joined the club in 2011, "will be made in the coming days" the club added.
The Northern Irishman took over from Steve Bruce, leading Sunderland to seven wins in his first 10 fixtures on their way to a 13th-placed finish.

Him and Stuart Hall are fighting it out for exclusive rights.

Maybe they could employ a manager now that won't gift 6 points to United every Season? Just a thought...

Surprised at how poor his time at Sunderland has been.I still doubt he will have a shortage of suitors if he is on the look for a new employer.

It doesn't say much for Sunderland that they took him so long to 'find him out'
He's been a blight on every team he's managed - with the possible exception of the Emile Heskey-inspired Leicester - with his dreary brand of 'anti-football'

Hopefully he'll disappear over the horizon never to be heard from again. Utterly fucking tedious bloke.

Not really. He was successful at Wycombe, Celtic & Villa. Didn't work out for him here though.
As for Sunderland being pedestrian, I'm struggling to think when I've seen them be anything but. There are several teams in the league it's difficult to get excited about, Sunderland are one of them. They linger around much like an unwanted relative and it's hard to give a shit whether they get relegated or not despite keeping Lee Cattermole in employment.
This is a club crying out for a young top, top manager like Les. He could definitely take them as high as fourteenth.

I can't remember what his Wycombe side were like, but his Villa and Celtic teams were never what you'd call
'proponents of the beautiful game'Hansen and Shearer can make room for him on the MotD couch

You can see O'Neill is tired. He has done all he can in football management without going to big club and/or managing major international team.
This was really the first time in his career he failed anywhere. He made the ridiculous mistake of going to team he supported himself. That always ends in tears in football management. You have too grand of dreams.

They have to have a replacement sourced you would think when they are parting company with such a few games remaining.McDermot would be a decent shout for them.

He's been linked, alright. They'd have to be suicidal to employ that joker.
