A good list Patrick but loads in there not in England.

But it looks pretty bad for Wakefield. Their team had never even been close to the football league and the team doesn't even originate from Wakefield!

Oh it is is well known for its extreme sports over here!

100 locals lie down on a steep hill and they take it in turn to ride on a piece of wood over the bodies performing various manouvres as they all roll gently down the hill.

This sport has become popular across the globe and is known as......Wake-boarding!

Not a city obviously but Kent trumps the lot. Only 1 professional side and their claim to fame was losing a 2 goal lead in the 89 minute.

Surely Birmingham?

Englands supposed second city...when was the last time a Birmingham club won the league?

Ill tell you...Villa in 1981

West Brom in 1920

Birmingham never

Hardly a good return considering how big it is

Carlisle. One season in the top flight ever. That's gash.

In recent years, the obvious answer is Leeds. As a city it's big enough to support two teams. As it is they've got one shit one.

Unfortnunally they seem to be on the rise or rice that should be. Still puzzled about Wakefield. Good night fellow followers and may the tide be with you.

Wakefield is a West Yorkshire city but these days is a bit of a satellite town for Leeds. If you've heard of the band 'The Cribs' (quality), that's where they come from.

Bradford. I thought it was the 7th biggest City in the country and Bradford City and Park Avenue have hardly covered the city in glory. Eleven thousand out of a population bigger than Manchester is a feeble effort.
Incidentally it is perceived wisdom that if Bradford Exchange and Forster Square stations had been linked making Bradford a through destination, it would have been the industrial powerhouse of the North.
But Bradford without a doubt is the worst.
City and sniffing knickers.
Come on Blues.

I know "no contest" is a figure of speach but Wakefield is a bigger City and does not have a football league club so it wins any crapness contest with Coventry City by a country mile (CCFC have been in the Premier League, have won the FA Cup and have a half decent stadium)

I still think SALFORD. although they are not the biggest, they have been starved of any kind of decent football for nearly 100 years

Not a City but an area.

Cumbria

Miles away from anywhere, population of 500,000. I know they have Carlisle and Barrow but if those to teams were to say merge and become Cumbria United, a team for Cumbria then they would be a competitive Championship side with flirts in the prem with good management.

Nice idea, but if you have ever tried to get from Barrow to Carlise or vice-versa, it's a huge trek, an hour or so down the motorway and across, through some splendid scenery, or the long way past Sellafield and the coast, so they are not really neighbours.
Didn't Carlisle make it into the to flight once a long time ago, or is it just my bad memory?

Would love to see the English leagues expand to include Glasgow, Belfast, and Dublin. Might be a step along the road to a genuine European league.

It always surprises me that Leeds only has the one club. Especially (ignoring the non-entities like Huddersfield and Halifax) when you consider that Leeds United's immediate "catchment area" is essentially West Yorkshire

What I mean is that if you take Greater Manchester's catchment area (or Lancashire as it was) we have City, United, Bolton, Wigan, Blackburn and then the likes of Burnley, Preston, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Macclesfield.

When viewed in that context Leeds is pretty poxy

Coventry is the 10th biggets city in the country, Wakefield is a small town with no football team. Trust me, Coventry City is dross on speed.

Having watched the '2nd city derby' yesterday, I switch my vote to Birmingham. How many empty seats, home and away support? Pathetic is far too genrous a word.
