Agree on all points.

To be honest i've never heard of him

Sort of refined Spanish version of Andy Carroll. Great in the air, strong, very nice footballer & can play amongst the Spanish style passing game. Not particularly prolific scorer in the past but seems to be getting better & better & is knocking them in for fun this season whuich means they wouldn't want to let him go. At this moment in time, he's a better player than Torres & imo better than Dzeko. Looks made for the English game.

Quite agree here. Even if I still would rate a bit more Dzeko, overall.
Definitely I'll be over the moon if a straight swop of Tevez for Llorente+Javi Martinez could be arranged.

Tevez wouldn't be elegible for selection at Bilbao.

Honorary Basque?
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Ethno-politics are too important to them (I'm not a fan of Basque nationalism, but I won't get into it here).

Zabaleta's a Basque name - they might let him have ten minutes in a friendly.

From his Spanish wikipedia entry:

Zabaleta es de familia de origen vasca, de Leiza, Navarra, con una fuerte tradición por sus costumbres, hecho que hizo que el Athletic Club se interesase en él.

I never knew that Athletic had toyed with the possibility of signing him in the past. Interesting.

Athletic, like Euskatel in cycling, have always been open in the last 10+ years to the possibility of signing non spanish-basque players, i.e.:
- french-basque
- venezuelans, argentinians at alii of basque origin (see Unai Extebarria in Euskatel as an example)

I'm glad no one mentioned Suarez from Ajax yet. I would be like Buridan's ass if he came her. Don't know if my hate of him or my love for City would win ... which would probably lead to my head imploding should he ever score for us.

This is exactly my point. They're obsessed with ethnicity. There's nothing worse than ethno-political nationalism.

I know, I was explaining it more to Mancio4 but took advantage of your post that paved the way to a full explanation of why Tevez couldn't possibily end up at Athletic

P.S. don't tell me about ethno-political nationalism... but let's not open this door here :-)

Argentinian born and now main striker of the Paraguayan NT. Not bad as far as I recall from having seen him both with Paraguay and Dortmund.

Not good enough for us from what I've seen.
He may be able to cut the mustard in Germany but I can't see himbeing a success in Prem

Thank You Mate.
Once I had a collegue which was born in Irun (about 10 miles from S.Sebastian) so I have a certain knowledge of Guipúzcoans... Funny enough he is probably the most pro-Castillian Basque ever (or anti ETA, if You prefer), so much that he eagerly supports RM... :-)
Anyway, I do agree to comply with the house rules about no politics, even because I was only playing a fantasy-football dream.

As a main line striker i.e.a big man up front go for Dzeko score 1.94 goals per game, with Hulk as a back up who can play right as part of a three or up top scores 1.67 goals per game.

But how many would they score in the PL?As they are unproven at PL level.

Drogba, Torres, Tevez, all of them were PL unproven at one point. If we only look at proven PL scorers, who are we left with? Drogba is 32, Torres always injured, do we turn to Crouch, Bent, Defoe? Unless we want to go for Rooney...

If we want proven PL players then Darren Bent finished above Tevez in the ESM Golden shoe ratings last season!

City boss Roberto Mancini may choose to strengthen his front line with Ajax striker Luis Suarez as well. http://www.imscouting.com/global-news-a ... rez/12586/

So, basically we would like to pay more for an uproven striker than the release clause it had granted us the acquisition of the Europe's most wanted striker (i.e. Dzeko).
