Skysports.com understands Kelvin Etuhu is set to leave Manchester City on a free transfer.

Etuhu, who has come through the youth ranks at City, is thought to be close to agreeing a deal to cancel his contract.

The 22-year-old has found himself well down the pecking order at City and both parties are ready to go their separate ways.

Etuhu enjoyed a season on loan at Cardiff last term and helped the Championship club reach the play-off final where they lost to Blackpool.

The move to cancel his contract will leave Etuhu free to find a new club in January and there are thought to be a number of clubs waiting in the wings to sign the versatile attacker.

I didn't think he would make it at City from the first time I saw him. Seems like a 'speedboat with no driver' type of player. He needs to watch what he does in the future though and keep his head down and one day he might make it at a team like Bolton.

That incident outside the casino didn't do a lot for him. He is in the last year of his contract so a loan is the same thing as a free transfer. He was surplus to requirements and would have been released to a decent offer but the timing of the alleged assault made that more difficult.

He'll be better off trying to get playing somewhere but a trial date in Feb isn't helpful for his chances.

Oh and if we sign someone he or Logan are the most likely candidates to be de-registered from the prem squad. In that case he will do his career no favours if he sits around collecting his paycheck for another 6 months.

I do think if his brother had stayed with us he'd have turned out to be a cracking player mind. He's doing alright for himself as it is, but if he'd not gone to Preston and continued to develop here I think we'd have seen a better player in my opinion. I suppose it's probably the biggest mistake of his life.

Kelvin has got pace and bit of skill as well. Unfortunately he has very little football brain and don't seem to be improving ie is not vry hard trainer. Reminds me of Ishmael Miller in that sense. He will be a good player in Championship and decent player for lower midtable Premier League side from the bench. Don't be surprised if he goes to Fulham.

He seems to have less skill with each passing year. Like many young players, including Miller, he seems to have responded to being given a 1st team chance by deciding he's made it & enjoying the finer things in life, rather than striving to improve. If you gave these kids Uwe Rosler's brain & attitude, they'd be top players but they're happy to carry on with their faults rather than spend extra time on the training ground solving them.

Two things I seem to remember about Kelvin:

1. He came on as a sub against Spuds away 3 seasons ago and scored a good goal and looked very lively and promising. I think we drew that match. After that match he was back to the bench and we hardly saw him again.

2. He was preferred by Leslie over Elano in the home match against Fulham 2 seasons ago which we lost and which ended up costing us a Europa League spot.

I sort of feel sorry for those City youth prospects of that age group. They set their standards on what we were and would have beleived they had every chance of good careers with us.
City changed, the standards sky rocketted and those unable to cope and step up, got left behind.
Plenty of shattered dreams in that generation.
