What really fucking annoys and disappoints me though is that the media fuelled jingoistic ego that we have as a nation allowed us to be so gullible and so easily used.

How much energy, money etc has gone into this bid - all for the benefit of FIFA's corrupt hierarchy - because we made it look like there was a really a competition which probably meant that the bribes were higher.

It would have been far better to simply stay out and expose the process for the corrupt farce that it is. It pisses me off that the BBC programme is getting the blame - if exposing the fuckers really means that we lost votes - well does that not itself demonstrate that everyone knows how bent it s - and look at the punishments handed out by FIFA recently - less than a tiny tap on the wrists and guaranteed to ensure the guys involved will have their snouts back in the trough long before the next 'selection process'

So if there is some issue with other countries - I really hope we do not come to the rescue

i dunno how it's measured but "soccer" as you fucktards dubbed it is clearly way way way more popular in the states than 30 years ago when i was a kid. The problem is the participation drops off after like age 8 precipitously. it's seen as a game small children play to get socialized or that cute lesbians excel at. Just sayin.

I thought it did work for the USA. It's a big sport over there. Sure it's not bigger than American Football, but that's like saying that the NFL game in London every year hasn't worked because American Football isn't bigger than soccer in England.

America is one of the biggest markets for soccer and has one of the biggest playing pools. They do it in their own style, it's middle class and for kids. But what's wrong with that? Kids should be playing it, it's a good sport to actually play. There isn't the same tradition in America of participation in field sports. There's softball, which is a social activity that barely registers as a sport, mostly people just go jogging or to the gym for exercise.

Oh it definitely worked for the USA. The game is much more popular here than it was before the World Cup, and it gets more popular every year.
