Santos apparently buying back Elano Blumer from Galatasaray for a reported sum in swedish media of ~2,3 m pounds.

To be honest I really don't understand the negativity towards him. As far as I'm aware he hasn't said a bad word about us since he left the club( could be wrong here) and produced some dazzling displays for us, although they were few and far between.

Certainly one of the most naturally talented players to have played for us.

Agree. I kind of liked him though wasn't really disappointed to see him go at the time.

That screamer against Newcastle was magic. I also have never had so much faith in our player of scoring from the spot as I had when he stepped up.

That display against Hamburg was one of the best I've ever seen by a City player. Remarkably talented player, just wasn't physical enough for the Premier League.

I just wonder if he would have shone more in this City side, alongside Silva. Would he have been Mancini's kind of player?
I guess we will never know

Silva is a good example of why Elano is shite. Silva is smaller & at first glance, looks much less able to handle the Prem than Elano but not only has Silva got more talent, he's got twice as much guts & he tries twice as hard. Elano is a gutless waster. Silva is a City player.

Elano was/is a top player, he just happens to be Brazillian and we all know that Brazillians will never make it at City. FACT

Seriously talented, just too soft.

Greatest free kick by a City player ever though.

Agreed.....really bloody good penalty taker too.

He wouldn't have got anywhere near the starting line-up under Mancini.....not a chance.

I really liked him, just wished he had more mongrel and less mard arse in him. As

As someone (Ruxpin?) said above, Silva has all his talent and none of the downsides.....see box marked Ireland/Adebayor for why he'd get no gametime here now

Our best 2 free kick takers were Elano and Garrido and Elano coupled that with 100% record in penalty kicks conversion. Since they left I think Tevez scored once from a free kick against the Scum in the League Cup semi. Don't remember any more ?

Always liked Elano and I think he got a rather unfair treatment from many on this forum. In his first season under Sven he was our top scorer (if I'm not mistaken). He didn't click with Leslie and it went down hill from there.
As for whether Bob would have picked him for this side, well it was reported that he was interested in him when he was still at Inter, so he clearly rates him. Until Silva came along we had no one who really replaced Elano's creativity as a playmaker.
He was a regular for Brazil and was tremendous in their first 2 WC matches and scored twice. Brazil clearly suffered after he was injured and could not play in their last 2 matches.
Good luck to him where ever he is now.

Tevez scored one against Chelsea last season too.

That is an opinion I just cant understand if you watched him play for City. He did a few good things early on, but couldn't:

Tackle
Run any faster than my old mum
Shoot very well
Pass short - had to be 70 yards and given away
Get on with any manager
Hold the ball with any strength

Watch a re-run of the game at Old Trafford toward the end of his time. That was the worst ever performance by a City player - and there is some serious competition!

Which top European club did we get him from? And who snapped him up?

EDIT - could take penalties, well done fella

Elano was without doubt a gifted footballer but was also a whinging bastard and spat his dummy out when he wasn't the centre of attention and playing all the time. Much happier now we have proper professionals like David Silva, Gareth Barry, James Milner, Big Nige etc in our ranks.

He was good until he got those ridiculous braids. I think he did them too hard and stopped the blood flow to his head.

I sat on the first row of the first tier the Pompey game when he was playing right back. The guy was incredibly skilled with the ball. It was nothing like watching your average fullback in action. Too bad he could't defend.

You can have all the talent in the world, but if your a gutless mardarse you won't make it in the prem or any other top league.

if he had knuckled down and stopped whinging he could of been brilliant. just another player that didnt have the mentality for english football.

good player though.

Had he put 50% of the effort into every game that he put into the Hamburg game he would have been a very special player - shame really.

most overrated City player ever...it's like some of you were blind the whole time he was at City...people quote the Hamburg game because it was the only game he actually played that was decent!!

Makes Ade look like a workhorse

Laziest player ever...fact

Find me someone lazier who isn't in the John68 timescale...i've been going since 81 and I've not seen anyone as half arsed

I'd have told Elano to Jog On a long time ago...but he probably couldn't manage a brisk walk
