Salzburg Pain or Glory?

On Wednesday we take on the mighty Salzburg at home. Although there is little interest in this fixture (tickets for £5, 1p or whatever) it could well be our most defining game for a long time.

Nothing short of a win will suffice, and even a one-goal win will produce mutterings. Wanting to win at Juventus is not an ideal situation, and if we fail to qualify the press will have a field day, the fans (and possibly the owners) will be wanting Bobby out, and all hell will break loose. Just as yesterday's game went from 'great win, good performance, 3 points behind leaders etc' to 'terrible, atrocious performance, Bobby out' in the space of a split second, if you follow the match thread.

So, on Weds night, will it be 'Mancini Out', 'on course for the trophy'??? The City SWINGOMETER awaits.

1 Lech 4 7
2 Man. City 4 7
3 Juventus 4 4
4 Salzburg 4 2

Matchday Five - Wednesday - 21.05 CET 1 Dec 2010
Manchester City FC - FC Salzburg
KKS Lech Poznań - Juventus

Matchday Six - Thursday - 19.00 CET 16 Dec 2010
FC Salzburg - KKS Lech Poznań
Juventus - Manchester City FC

Didn't really see any Mancini out posts after yesterday's draw to be honest. Maybe I am blind though.

However it is what we City fans seem to be like. Still Thursday morning could go either way!

One of the problems 'knee jerkers' have is they cannot be taken seriously for very obvious reasons, even if they manage to get together and have a collective scream it wouldn't be taken seriously, it would get used by anyone with an agenda to push and might influence other weak minded souls who read the papers and listen to Sky, but thats about it.

Anyways we shouldn't be looking at too many problems here. I think we will crush Salzburg anyway and Juve have to go to Poznan which doesn't look good for the italians at all. If Juve have to win the final game to even have a mathematical chance that just plays into our hands imo.

I know it could all go wrong, but the chances are stacked against that in a big way. Both Salzburg and Juve have to play away and somehow play to get a win... and so playing into the hands of the home teams. City and Poznan have serious advantages for the games on Thursday all the presssure is on Salzburg and Juve.

By the way i think we will clean Juve out as well in Turin.

Yes as long as we win, anything but a Juve win will send us through.

Just let me get this straight - "knee-jerkers" is now the term given to anyone that has voiced concerns over Mancini's style of football.

Would that be correct? Also, trying to box people off like that is a bit sad IMO. You're also talking about the 20 odd thousand fans who left early v Birmingham and also the ones that stayed and booed the manager off the pitch.

Don't get me wrong, I have had little or no problems with how we went about the last two games, so obviously I'm talking about the bigger picture, but are you labelling all of these people and the likes of myself "knee-jerk"????

I'm with you on that mate, but I've feeling its a wider audience that BBS is referring to and I'm just checking to make sure I'm not in that crowd.

Truth be told Dub i have no idea what kind of jerk you are, but there is nothing wrong with a good knee jerk imo as long as it is accepted as such.. ie a reaction as opposed to a thought out thing. We can all go off on one.
As for labelling no im not, i dont even like labelling bottles so im not going to start on people. I will say that the fans reaction was probably more out of frustration than a knee jerk tbh.. after two games struggling at home and poor fare for some time. Maybe that is a bit knee jerk in the grander scheme of things i dunno, but i wasn't talking about that, i was more responding to the OP, which was kind of making an either or, glory or despair swingometer scenario.

Anyways i dont boo and wouldn't leave early so if i had been there i would have knee jerked into calling the fans who did impatient c*nts.

Hope that clears it all up.

Well kind of, but you still don't seem to acknowledge the vast number of people who had just become fed up with the style of football, more trying to imply that it all had to do with two games rather than almost a year of largley boring football, that was culminating in a run of poor results.

Those you refer to are probably in a crowd of two, so I wouldn't even bother addressing them if I was you.

Oh and I'm a big jerk if you must know.

Et toi?

Quoted a few times there it seems.

Surely deserve what we got I.e a draw cannot be considered knee jerk?

And we were poor yesterday for about 60 minutes.

Im the biggest jerk i know, not sure if that amounts to much though.

Your point, although in fairness to me is not about the OP... ie swingometer etc. is probs about right, i do think that the reaction to the brum game was ott, but i could understand that for what you point out as a fairly underwhelming start to the season and run of games. I put the reaction down to the result on the back of the Derby performance which was depressing and started people thinking that things were fucked up and basically made a lot of people angry, as derbies always do. Whereas the Brum game was very different in performance just no result, so for me the two didn't add together to make a clear idea of anything, i said that at the time and i will stick by it. I had a big debate with Ted about this during the following week and even he admitted that his reaction and negativity was in a great part the lack of improvement evident since the start of the season and beyond, and that did make him view the Brum game in a different way and not simply on the game alone.

The bottom line is we all want to get our dirty little mitts on the porno-star we have paid a lot of money for.. and some greasy little fuck keeps coming up with excuses why we cant. It is akin to sexual frustration, which by the way we should ask the Doom Monger for advice on how to deal with before it all gets out of hand, so to speak.

If we get knocked out of the UEFA, it will be Bob's fault & he'll deserve slating for it. We have the strongest squad in the league & he has to get the best out of the pklayers in it. If he can't do that it's a fault in his management style. He also chose to loan out our 2nd best forward & must be responsible for his decisions. There's absolutely no excuse for not getting through this group, none whatsoever.

The performance in the Brum game was absolutely dire - at least against the rags some kind of justification could be found, against Birmingham there was none.

justification for what? clearance of the line, hitting the bar, Tevez shouldering it in, saves and numerous blocked shots? What fucking justification was there against the rags that outweighed 27 attempts on goal? IF by the word performance you mean result then ok a simple misunderstanding, if not.. well my own knee jerk is you must have a head that is full of paper soaked in wet stinky piss at the very least.

I meant that (some might) justify the performance against the rags as being it was against a top team - not me I hasten to add.

Don't give me that "27 attempts on goal" bollocks either - at least 20 of those attempts were none-entities, the performance was indeed dire and it was the manager who shouldered the responsibility for that and against the rags.

He's redeemed himself temporarily. I hope he keeps it up.
