Salzburg Pain or Glory?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I guessed my OP over-emphasised the fans' reactions a bit much.

What I really meant was:

Are we all going to be feeling pain? Or glory? And all the manifestations of each they show on here.

Will we beat the buggers?

We don't know what side he will put out & if it's full of 2nd string players; how motivated they will be.

This is the team that beat them 2-0 Silva and Jo scoring.

Hart, Zabaleta, Bridge (Boyata 67), K Toure, V Kompany, Barry, Y Toure, Silva (Wright-Phillips 83), de Jong, Jo, Tevez (Vieira 79)

Unused subs:
Given, Richards, Milner, A Johnson

I rekon we can field a half decent makeshift team.

What a few seem to have forgotten is that the last minute screamer conceded in Poznan has completely turned this group on it's head. Boyata's mistake for their fluke of a second didn't really change anything much, but their third certainly did.

The head to head with Poznan is now in their favour and hands, and even if we do beat them, we may well need to get something at Juve to go through. Lose or draw with Salzburg and we are then looking to beat Juve in Turin and could be as good as out in the early group stages of a tournament that many were expecting us to possibly win.

This would be even more frustrating seeing as we didn't play anything like our best side in any of these group games.

This is now a BIG game!

if we don't qualify mancini has to go for me - we're after silverware AND a champs league spot this season - we can't be out of 2 of the 3 comps before christmas

Not sure about him going but ....... if we go out at this stage, it will the most embarrassing thing we have will have had to deal with since the takeover. I can just imagine the piss takers .... "What's the point in trying to qualify for the Champs league when you can't even get through a piss easy Europa group!"

What's even more annoying is that....... they would be absolutely right!!

Anyway ...... I'm fairly positive it won't come to that, although I will be fairly nervous on Wednesday night unless we score early on.

If we put out a makeshift team for this game and manage to fuck up qualification we'll (rightfully) be a laughing stock of world football, let alone at home in England.

How about a dire home 0-0 against Salzburg but Poznan score a winning goal in the last minute against Juve and we're through.

Job done!

We are kind of assuming that Juve will fall at Poznan, for good reason it has to be said. What if Juve turn up and pull off a win ? That would put them on 7pts. Poznan go to Salzburg in the final game and if they win that they will be on 10pts.

So even if we beat Salzburg and are on 10pts it could come down to goal diff and head to head if we dont beat Juve in Turin.

Typical City would have us 3-0 down to Juve at half time with Poznan 2-0 up in Austria.

deJong for a Dickov impression in the second half?

I don't agree with this weakened team malarky
Our "weakened" team will still sport names like adabayor, given, bridge, lescott, A johnson, SWP etc etc
Pre-takeover if we had a first team with those sorts of names in it we would be expecting to give the Europa a f'in good nudge

Then a draw in Turin would be enough.

it would, but the thread is talking about the whole idea of not having to go to Turin in need of a result, hence the possibility of a looming meltdown if we dont get a result tomorrow.
