You are MCFC's payroll dept

We all keep hearing the nonsense about Yaya being on GBP 230k a week and all that jazz which is doubtless without foundation....but it is beyond doubt that many of our team and squad are coining a very tasty salary.

This season, some have certainly been "worth" their salary and others haven't quite justified their costs.....so, just for fun and starting with the mythical 230k a week. If you were handing out contracts and determining our payday pecking order, how would you remunerate our squad.

Let's say that the highest earner is on 230k a week and the lowest earners on a minimum of 30k.

My contract hit parade for this season is as follows:

230k
Carlos Tevez

200k
Vincent Kompany
David Silva

180k
Kolo Toure
Nigel de Jong
Joe Hart

150k
Micah Richards
James Milner
Adam Johnson
Pablo Zabaleta

120k
Alex Kolarov
Yaya Toure
Mario Balotelli
Gareth Barry
Emmanuel Adebayor

80k
Joleon Lescott
Jerome Boateng
Jo
SWP
Dedryk Boyata

30k
Wayne Bridge
Greg Cunningham
Abdi Ibrahim
Roque Santa Cruz
Michael Johnson

The more I think about this, the more optimistic about our potential for this season I am. There are quite a number of very good players who have not hit (or consistently hit) their stride as yet. Augers well IMO. Correspondingly, however, it does also show that some of our players really do need to up their games, pull up their socks or it may well be the exit door for them come January/May as they are not remotely earning their crust!!

I'd put Hart in the same bracket as Kompany and Silva.

I'd drop Richards two brackets (he's played due to injuries, his performances have not been up to the required standard)

Plus I belive that Barry has played better than Adam Johnson and Milner.

staggering really what some players are on when you look at teams such as Villa, who are a decent sized club, whos highest paid player is apparently around £40k. Can you imagine Abdi Ibrahim being their highest paid player ha.

I think that the mainstays on the team sheet should be the highest earners.

Tevez is obviously on another level than the rest, but in the bracket just below him I would have Hart, Barry, de Jong, Silva, Kolo, Kompany, YaYa.

Just below them would be AJ, Milner, Micah, Zabba, Kolarov (possibly in the bracket above), Boateng, Ade, Given, Vieira.

Then a bracket for the under-performers and bit part players, like Jo, Bridge, Lescott, SWP. I would also put Boyata in this category since he's taken the step into the first sqaud.

The last bracket is for the kids on the verge of the first sqaud.

I'm now, of course, purely looking at on pitch performances, disregarding what should be important factors such as experience, previous club and wage level there, how hard they train, their influence on the group, development, etc.

Here we go, a set structure for all players, make it fair so there are no arguements or ill feelings;

150k - New signings and all players who played more than 75% games in the previous season or of the current season (after 10 games)

100k - All players who played between 25% & 75% games in the previous season or in of the current season (after 10 games)

50k - All players who play an average of less than 25% of games over the previous season or in the current season (after 10 games).

25k - Academy graduates appearing on the bench who have not yet fulfilled the above criteria. This should be awarded on a week by week basis up until the player has acheived the criteria in the above bracket. On weeks that this player does not appear in the squad they will remain on their academy wage.

Plus;

50k per goal awarded to any player.
25k per assist awarded to any player.
50k per clean sheet awarded to keeper.
100k per hat trick.

Minus;

50k per red card (subject to appeal with club management should the player disagree with the referees decision)

Injury

The above wages should be applied subject to the % of games the player played in the last 10 games prior to their injury.

If the player is injured for more than a full season (rolling - not calender) they should be put on 50k.

Absolutely outrageous top brackets and I hope some of those players are on nowhere near that; but I fear there will be.

I know alot is press bollocks; but WHAT THE FUCK is the need in doubling and vastly increasing the salary of players like Santa cruz, lescott, Milner etc. Im sure most of them would have come for say, a 10k rise, as every one of those players moved up.

OK, players like tevez, silva and Yaya may need to be offered a wedge. And thats where parity comes into play.

IMO de jong, vince and zaba would be happy on say, 30/40k (purely guess work) but if there the ones consistently performing and you have lazy Yaya on (around FOUR TIMES?!) your salary, some serious shit would go down!

Any basic salaries would be severely cut down for me but the bonuses for winning things would be substantial. Game win bonuses but especially winning trophies and gettin to the chumps league should be the serious money bonuses.

I heard a rumour that even if we reach the knock out stages of the Champions League we will lose money as a result of the bonuses we will have to pay.

I know its just a bit of a fun, but blues being OK with lads like Micah and Lescott on 60k per WEEK kind of shocks me. I was always under the impression that a few of the players with old contracts were on more realistic say 30/40 k. I know lescott was signed post-takeover. Has Zabaleta signed a new contract by the way? I think he has one or two years left. Yet I think he should be on alot more than lescott and micah.

Bit of grey area doing it like that though. Say David Silva nut megs 3 people, goes past another two and place the ball of the century to Micah Richards who then passes it 5 yards to Tevez to score. Is Richards more deserving of the assist than David Silva?

I say let the players get paid what they want, if some club is stupid enough to give the player what they are asking for then more fool them. They are athletes who have to keep their bodies in tip top condition for 15 years, entertaining millions and millions every week, when you put it into context of what others are earning in other professions then you will see that what they get is in line for what they deserve.
