Bit too soon to be calling the slow starters "lesser teams" I see Everton, Villa, Birmingham and even Fulham(Hughes) as more difficult than I would have seen Wolves and how did that turn out again?

thanks for that summary WW!
I really dread the Bolton game. If they play against us like they did against spurs yesterday, it will be a very tough day at the office. I was very impressed.

The funny thing is, 4 points puts us in 2nd, 5 points ties us for first. I wonder if we were looking back in May if that 1 point wouldn't matter.

No point in looking back at those games we haven't won in because especially the Wolves we didn't deserve anything from the match.
The Blackburn game, we could argue that we should have won.
Also earlier in the thread someone mentioned the Bolton game as a threat, we play them at Eastlands in December and go to the Reebok on the last day of the season, which is 6 months away so no need to worry. They have improved hugely under Coyle but perhaps not quite the same threat away from home as they are at the Reebok.

Notably LPool,Chelsea,Arse and Scum will all have been home games so the harder versions still to come.

True but last season we got 1 win, 2 draws and 1 defeat from those away fixtures. Also with Mancini at the helm i'm confident he will have us setup right in those games.

You get 3 points whether you you beat Chelsea or West Ham.
Going by your table we have an average of 1.75 points against the bottom 10 currently - this isn't good. 1.75 ppg would get you 66.5 overall - exactly half a point less than we got last year. And that's just going off the bottom half.
Last season Chelsea lost to City x2, Villa, Everton, Spurs & Wigan. So 5 of 6 losses to comfortably top 10 sides.
Last season Chelsea got 54 points against the bottom 10, that's 2.7 ppg whereas our current rate gets us 35 points from the bottom rate.
Imo, making sure you get 3 points against the lesser teams is THE way to make sure you're on your way to winning the leauge.

Today was a nice surprise tbh. I felt for sure like it was a banana peel we'd slip on. Typical City. ;)

Concerning Wolves they're very underrated by people, second from bottom doesn't reflect their potential to be honest - I would be extremely surprised if they were relegated this season - maybe I'm damning them with faint praise but I see them as a midtable club.

Your point is a good one.
I wonder though if it is possible to tell who the "lessser" teams are until much later on in the season.
And while yes, there will be teams at the bottom end of the table, it does look to me as though this year the "lesser" teams are a lot more dangerous than they might have been in other seasons. It is a lot harder for everyone not just us. Chelsea just lost to fifth from bottom (at start of play). Tottenham just lost to a midtable side and conceded four and that should have been more - Bolton hit the woodwork twice. united threw the lead away twice to Fulham and newly-promoted West Brom at home, as well as limping to draws against Sunderland and Bolton. Wigan, currently third from bottom, won at Tottenham. Sunderland and Wolves beat us and Balckburn took a draw. You see Stoke coming from behind to beat Villa who finished in the top 6 last season. These "lesser" teams are getting nearer and nearer to the standard of the "top" teams.
So while I do agree with you, it is a lot easier said than done.
Your right leg I like; I've got nothing against your right leg. The trouble is neither have you.

i guess that's why they make us play every match. someone should sort that out and just hand us the league for being so glamorous and having the best fans in all the land in all the world, etc.
broken britain.
