Three up top - how?

Postby brite blu sky » Tue Oct 19, 2010 9:21 am

David Silva's superb goal will have done him a world of good.. Tevez has got his touch back, AJ has a lot to prove and Milner looks like he is desperate to get a goal, Balotelli is going to make an appearance soon and Adebayor knows he has to get in there now.

We have some great players of that there is no doubt. Im not sure whether im thinking this for the Arsenal game, but im wondering what formation we could adopt to have Adebayor, Tevez and Silva as the frontmost three. Or is it more obvious to include Milner and assume a 4-4-2

The only way i can think of a 4-3-3 is to drop Milner back alongside Barry or Yaya with deJong as usual behind. In effect

deJong
Yaya Milner

Silva Tevez
Adebayor

Anyone got any better suggestions?

Do we really want to include Adebayor in the starting 11? Personally, I'd go with:

Hart

Boateng (Richards) Touré Kompany Kolarov

De Jong

Yaya Milner (Barry)

Silva Balotelli

Tevez

And then bring on Ade or AJ if there's need later in the game.

I suppose i am thinking about right now.. as in whos fit for the next game or two, so hence Adebayor. I'm kind of thinking Arsenal too, where for good or bad i would expect Ade to start.

If we're talking Poznan I'd go with a front 3 of

Silva Ade Swp

If we're talking Arsenal then I'd go with
Silva Ade Tevez

For me I'd rather Tevez got rested for the Poznan game instead of the arsenal game. And mancini needs to say to ade that the next 2 games r his chance to show he's worth a start if not I'd let him rot in the reserves till January.

I think 4-4-2 is an absolute fucking dire waste of time unless you 'do' crosses & headers. Seeing as we currently don't, (although it was a bit better v Blackpool tbf) all 4-4-2 does is make us look less solid defensively & imo changing to it cost Hughes his job. When we use it with Mancini the defence looks just as bad as it did under Hughes as people get pulled out of position.

If we want to get more attacking players into the team, I think variations of 4-3-3 (4-2-3-1/ 4-1-3-2/ 4-3-2-1/ 4-2-2-2) are the way to go. Front 3 could be a rotation between Tevez, Balotelli, Silva, AJ & Ade & could have one further forward with the other two tucked behind or two forward with one behind etc etc. Loads of options which can be tweaked during a game.

Midfield could be rotated between Milner, Barry, De Jong, Yaya, even SWP (who could also play in the front 3). You can still play 4-3-3 & be tight defensively if you pull 9 behind the ball when defending. You could have 3 holding midfielders & send the fullbacks forward or alternately get everyone forward when attacking & everyone back when defending. It's all about attitude & hard work to make it happen imo.

permutations etc...

Milner - Tevez - Silva

or,

Balotelli - Ade - AJ

or even

AJ - Balotelli - Milner

...and so on.

I'm actually liking Milner as a left winger.

Agree with the sentiments and formations Ted, and not unexpected tbh given your recent comments about crosses etc. The formations as numbers dont present a problem, it is when i try to fill the numbers with players names that the headaches start.

We have good wide players, so as you suggest we need to have a central figure who can win headers, knock downs or cause confusion. That means Ade right now and possibly Balotelli when he is back. Im trying to imagine Silva, Tevez and Ade as the front 3 and it seems unbalanced.

Maybe resting Tevez and have AJ and Silva or Milner and Silva to support Ade.

Got any suggestions for a line up with all 3 of Silva, Tevez and Ade ?

Well in the first example I cannot justify taking AJ out of a role he is doing well at to put in a guy who hasnt played there yet, I could possible see Silva replace Barry there, but I would be apprehensive at making the squad too attacking and leaving the defence exposed.

Maybe I could change it to this?

i think you've got it spot on, we don't need de jong, yaya and barry all playing at the same time would swap barry or nige for milner so he can drive us forward better than either of those two and yes for arsenal i think ade should start hopefully mario will be on the bench can't wait to see him play!

Bobby has officially said that he "may rest him for one of the two games this week". I'll show my arse in Burtons window if it's the gooners game mate.

Bobby does have the occasional strange team selection though:o(
