Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!
by Mark (Blue Army) » Sat Sep 25, 2010 4:47 pm
One of the most startling aspects of City’s third successive win over Chelsea was the reaction in the dressing room.
Whilst the ground echoed to the chimes of Blue Moon and a rash of hugs and high fives broke out all over the stadium, there was nothing but calm in the inner sanctum.
There was no hooting and hollering, no bellicose triumphalism just a quiet air of satisfaction at a job well done and three points hard earned.
There were many ‘man of the match’ performances all over the pitch for City. Nigel de Jong won the television champagne and his former teammate Vincent Kompany took the vote of those in the stadium.
“There were fourteen players on that pitch, more on the bench, and thousands in the stand who just refused to beaten,” declared imperious Belgian international Kompany.
"There was a collective will and we
showed what could be done. Chelsea
are a really good team and to beat
them is great but it is only three points
like any other three points"
“We will not win the league or finish in the Champions League places by beating Chelsea – though it will help – but by winning the games like the ones that are coming up against Newcastle and Blackpool.”
When the lack of celebrations surrounding the 1-0 win courtesy of Carlos Tevez’ winner just before the hour mark was pointed out to Kompany the midfielder turned central defender merely shrugged.
“Of course we are happy – very tired and very happy – but in this game you do not dwell on results,” he continued.
“Today is already yesterday as far as we are concerned – if you see what I mean. Tomorrow is now the only day that counts.
“We must enjoy this win recover, and then start work for the next game. When we beat Liverpool the next game we lost at Sunderland. We must make sure that doesn’t happen again.”

He is aint he ever since he signed i said he would be a star but i never knew it would be at center back he reads the game so well and puts it all on the line! I knew yaya would be a star for us too but i never knew he would be playing so far up the pitch for us but he helps us keep the ball the attacking third. I really do worry how good this team can be because if i was playing for any of the top 4 sides id be thinking we dont really want to play these.

I still believe that both his performances and his attitude are captain material and he will at some point be given the armband for keeps

Glad he found his home at centre back. There were a worrying few months when we bought De-~Jong and couldnt really play them both in midfield.
He is fucking brilliant, I'm glad he plays CB for us and his country now, he can excel himself there.
Still young, plenty of experience already, add to that some champs league experience next year? He'll be round these parts for years to come.

I love Komps! Class today. His partnership with Kolo reminds me of the Dunne and Distin one.

Tickles me that he still says that he prefers playing midfield.....he is a colossus at centre half and while he is playing that way there is not a chance that Mancini will be putting him there

it's like having a girlfriend who's a blowjob queen telling you she really doesn't like it as much as penetration. Tough shit!
he's a monster at CB...just fantastic. i can't imagine where we'd be if Hughes hadn't raided Hamburger SV for him and NDJ. Probably the two most important buys we've made outside of Tevez in the last 3 seasons.
cheers

He could lead us for years to come - he's got trophy-lifting arms too.

he was my choice for captain as soon as Dunne was sold, my only hesitation was around whether or not he'd be a nailed on starter.
I can understand the logic of giving the armband to Carlos but I cannot imagine that NDJ and Vincent are anything but two of the principal "leaders" in the dressing room. Both are bright enough to assert their authority without ruffling Carlos' feathers as the actual captain so, although I think Kompany is most natural choice as official captain I'm happy to have him doing some of that work unofficially

The armband is over rated, it is not as vital in football as other sports such as cricket. At the moment I can think of 6-7 other players who play, lead and act like they are the Captain......that's cool.
Love Dameerto's comment about Vinnie's trophy lifting arms, he's also got an immensely huge napper as well!
