England's "Depleted" Squad

Postby Alioune DVToure » Thu Sep 02, 2010 1:59 pm

There's been a lot of talk about England's squad being depleted without Terry, Lampard, Crouch, Wio, and no call-up for Joe Cole. Here's a possible line-up for tomorrow night:

--------------------------Hart

G.Johnson------Jagielka---Lescott------A.Cole

Walcott---------Milner------Barry-------A.Johnson

-----------------------------Gerrard

-----------------------Rooney

That for me is a fucking good team, with much better balance and shape than the shit that was being played at the WC. Pace and threat down both flanks, good little partnerships of players who already have a good understanding (Rooney/Gerrard, Barry/Gerrard, Barry/Milner, Jagielka/Lescott) and, perhaps most importantly, it's a youngish team.

The one problem might be the exposure on that right flank, but that could be worked on. As much as I don't lose sleep over the national team, I don't subscribe to the view that the future is bleak. If anything, the World Cup disaster is a great opportunity to fire off the slightly-over-the-hill deadwood (Terry, Ferdinand, Lampard, James) and start anew.

I thought the Rooney-Gerrard partnership in the early qualifiers worked a treat. It was only when Capello caught the England manager bug of trying to squeeze in Heskey that we went to shit. Horrid mune though he is, he's got to play.

In terms of form/goal-scoring, Shrek must be the worst English forward around at the moment. I can't understand how he keeps getting picked for club and country.

Bent must be wondering what the hell he has done wrong!

Your blue-tinted specs must be almost opaque if you're arguing the case for Bent to lead the line ahead of Shrek! I like Crouch but otherwise don't rate England's crop of forwards. It's a problem.

Whilst I don't want to back shrek up, he has outscored Bent most seasons and Bent has never looked comfortable at international level.

Their league stats.

09/10 Rooney 26 Bent 24
08/09 Rooney 12 Bent 12
07/08 Rooney 12 Bent 6
06/07 Rooney 14 Bent 13
05/06 Rooney 16 Bent 18

Bent has NOTHING to his game other than the ability to put the ball in the back of the net. Whilst that makes him priceless to a mid-table Prem side like Sunderland, it's not enough to warrant a place in the national side. He should be in the squad as an option from the bench. In my opinion, he can't impose himself on the game enough to warrant a starting berth.

I did stipulate 'in terms of form'. I'm not really interested in what shrek was doing 6 months ago or whatever. The fact remains, recently he has been shite and does not deserve to be in the England squad let alone the starting XI

Doesnt matter what he does with the squad for crappy friendlies and qualifiers because when it comes down to an actual competition he will fuck it up by picking lampard, gerrard and rooney for every match even if it means playing gerrard on the left when we have 4 players who are better than him there. Capello is a stupid old cunt who talks about picking players on form and being a tuff coach but when it comes down to it he is a predictable little faggot who doesnt have the balls to back up his bullshit press confrences. Fuck capello and fuck international football until he is gone.

Bring back terry vegetables.

pnly the 5 city players??

Wouldn't want to be bias. SWP has been playing well but it's hardly unreasonable to give Walcott a run with SWP on the bench.
