Redknapp hopeful on Rafael

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is 'hopeful' that Rafael van der Vaart will soon be joining the club.

Spurs swooped late for the Real Madrid midfielder on Tuesday and are still waiting on clearance before officially announcing the arrival of the Holland international.

Redknapp admits the agreement was rushed through with the 6pm deadline fast approaching and he is uncertain as to whether everything was completed in time.

He hopes he will be given good news by chairman Daniel Levy, as he believes Van der Vaart would be a useful addition to his already star-studded squad.

"It's still dragging on. We are just waiting to see whether it's all gone through," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

So they haven't 'officially' signed him in time as it is past the 6pm 'deadline'.
But Robinhos transfer was like this too.
Can't say i seen this one coming, be a very good player i think.

I dont understand how a transfer can go through after the deadline..... I know we kinda did it with Robinho, and we did it with Benjani (althought dont forget, that deal also involved the twitcher).

Can anyone who understands this more than I do, try and explain how or why a transfer can be allowed to go through after the deadline?

Exacly, it's wrong.
They just make out as if it was all completed at 6pm yet it is still ongoing?
Shouldn't be allowed......FULL STOP.
Even that city signing Robinho was breaking the rules.

Its an odd one though. You have several months to get your business done and you wait until 15 mins or so before the window closes. Like Robbie it smacks of who can we get on LastminuteTransfers.com so lets take a punt on the Dutch fella that no one else seems to want. Van Der Vart is no doubt a useful addition to the squad but its not a game changer. I thought with Champs League footie Spurs would go balls deep on some signings but its all been a bit meh.

My own view is that unless you have been tracking the player for a while and really want him then all this last minute stuff smacks of signing someone for the sake of it. Still I have no doubt it will be lauded as the transfer coup of the millennia.

I agree there.
There basically buying someone with a big reputation.
Doesn't mean he is that good.
But he has loads of caps for Holland so he must be good?
I think he will be a good signing for spurs.
He suits there style of play.

Good player but not sure where he fits in as they already have two other similar types in Modric and Kranjcar. Van Der Vaart isnt a game changer but is good value at £8m.

With those aforementioned three plus Huddlestone, Jenas, Bentley, Bale, Lennon, Sandro and Palacious that makes 10 midfielders competing for 4 spots. Naturally I expect mass press hysteria about where they are all going to fit in, signing players for the sake of it, kamikaze spending, and ...... oh no, hang on a minute, Arry is the red tops mate so it wont happen.

I think VDV is a very good player if you form your team around him... which Spurs won't do so we will have to see how effective he will be.

Spurs have a very strong squad and if they get him they'll be even stronger. No massive changes = stable platform to play from, and they'll only get better in my book.

Weak link for me is 'Ole 'Arry himself.

The deal and the paperwork for the transfer have been put through. The delay is the authorities checking if the deal is legit or not. I'd imagine myself that Spurs/Madrid weren't fully certain on the details in time so drew up some sort of vague proposal to give to the premier league / la liga while they iron out the details themselves and will then claim "oh this is what that means" at a later stage adapting the proposal to whatever they agreed on.

Still if they get him great signing, he's too good for spurs.

BALE --- HUDDLESTONE ---- MODRIC --- LENNON

Who is VDV gonna replace there then?
