it would set a silly and dangerous precedent for us (and clubs looking to purchase from us) if we did let them have him for that....or on loan for that matter.
Seems to me that AC Milan have played silly buggers with us on transfers at least twice....once big time with Kaka and then also with Matthieu Flamini.
We should play very hard ball with Milan AND with Robinho IMO
If the deal doesn't suit MCFC then no dice
Fully agree with this.
We (the management such as Marwood I mean) need to recognise that we are positioned to be one of the top players in the transfer market for years to come, but our actions previously / now will dictate how we are treated - we should not encourage clubs to believe that they can do some deal with an agent that leads to a player agitating for a move and then they get him on the cheap - as per Barca tried with Fabregas and succeeded with Mascherano. We are fortunate to be rich enough to 'take the full hit' and leave Rob as a squad player if he is not willing to play professionally for us - although personally I would wish that we could wipe out the last 2 years and he could be a new signing - in front of our new MF!
ACM are clearly dodgy on business ethics - we should avoid unless we get the deal we want
