Apparently the board signed David James without consulting him. Coppell said if players are going to come over his head they'd have to be at least 20 or 30 years younger.

To be fair to Coppell, it is probably better to realize when there is a problem and react as soon as possible. It does seem odd, particularly considering most people are far from passionate about what they do for a living.
