ESPN to cover City in US

Postby Mark (Blue Army) » Tue Jul 06, 2010 2:37 pm

City fans who can’t follow the club’s US tour in person will still be able to watch the Blues in action thanks to ESPN.

Four of City’s five American matches will be televised live and exclusively by the Disney-owned broadcaster who will also cover the Ferrostaal Trophy match against German side Borussia Dortmund on August 4.

Coverage begins on July 23 when City take on Sporting Lisbon in the New York Football Challenge and continues for the second tournament game against hosts New York Red Bulls on July 25.

The Blues’ Atlanta clash with Club America will be screened on July 28 before Roberto Mancini’s men wrap up the tour with a glamour friendly against Champions League winners Inter Milan at the M&T Banks Stadium in Baltimore on July 31.

This UK ESPN channels though or just the US channels?

I would guess the UK ones really since it is our official site and we are an English club but ESPN are primarily a US network

It comes included in the larger Virgin packages. Its all on the websites (sky or Virgin).

Apart from our friendlies there doesn't seem to be that many matches during the first half of the season. I think Citys only got one league game. Probably not worth the extra on top of sky if that is what you have.

What about LiveOnlineFooty.com?

Last season ESPN was £10 a month with freeview.

It was OK as there were 46 Prem games over the season, some FA Cup, Europa & at least one Serie A game a week.

However this season they have a lot less Prem games, it's more than halved I think - not worth it. We phoned to cancel but apparently Sky Sports is coming to freeview for £20 so we're just gonna switch over to that.

I've got espn, cancelled it ages back but it doesn't appear to have switched off.

Either way, the local boozer has it so I will try and catch these games over a pint

Good spot G and B. Their coverage is good anyway, I like the channel. Tenner is month is bugger-all especially as it comes out of the missus' account!
