New Coach - Attilio Lombardo

Roberto Mancini has called on his old friend Attilio Lombardo to join the Manchester City coaching staff.

Former Italy winger Lombardo, a former player manager of Crystal Palace, jumped at a return to England after a nomadic coaching career since quitting Sampdoria in 2006.

'I'm proud to work alongside Mancini,' said the 44-year-old. 'I played for a year-and-a-half at Crystal Palace so I know some of the football.

'I'll try to recover what little English I learned. For me this is a great opportunity for professional growth - working with a coach who has won so much.

'We always stayed in touch then he called me recently, to say, "Attilio, do you want to come here?" I immediately said yes.

'He needed one more person to give him a hand, I'll help him with some work on the pitch and then I'll go to see a few games of City's opponents, especially those in the Europa League.'

Lombardo played at Sampdoria in the 1990s alongside Mancini and another Italian City coach Fausto Salsano.

Lombardo has coached in Switzerland and with semi-professional Italian teams since leading Palace and later taking a youth coaching role with Sampdoria.

Who better to contrast and show off Roberto's flowing locks!
It may be my last year as a season ticket holder as it just doesn't seem the same with so few English and local players (but I said that last year)

What can we use as an Italian stereotype to match the "Taffia" tag from the Hughes era? Nothing comes to mind.

i saw him play for Sampdoria against Barca in the Euro champions final at Wembley in 1992. Fantastic player imo. Hope he proves to be a great coach and can add to the backroom staff.

Didn’t he used to manage Crystal Palace on a short term basis?

What’s Mancini trying to do turn us into Sampdoria? jobs for all his mates, Next he will be trying to sign players he used to previously manage!

Disgrace.

Sure the Mafia is Italian (Sicilian) why the need to change it? Unless you can put a spin on Cosa Nostra or The Sopranos or something like that.

Hehe. Got me at 1st I must admit.

Like the idea of Baldinio joining the staff very much. Bit more creative influence for when Bob is tempted to slide into one of his mind numbing negative phases.
