Mind you anyone would look good against England ;-)

Who slated him? Nothing but positives here on the Australian and ESPN feeds.

Looked composed as he's done for Hamburg every time I've seen him. Kept Milner fairly quiet and is good on the ball. Will be a decent player for us long term.

Done well in both games but a note of reality in how Upson ran past him to score a free header. Better teams than England, such as Stoke & Wigan, will be putting him constantly in that situation & he'll have to deal with it.

BBC pundits were having a go..saying the left back position was vunerable and showing a couple of times in previous matches when he was caught out of position

That was shoved back in their face

and Slim..who gives a flying fuck about England?

That.

Boateng was excellent at left back imo but that said he's quite clearly a centre back. Plus that cannon throw of his is gonna be fooking handy next season.

No he's a right sided CB who sometimes plays RB, playing out of position because the German LB is incompetent. He's not been up against anything so far so it's hard to say if he's a genuine contender for filling in at PL level in that position. Was hoping Lennon would come on late in the proceedings to see how he did v pace but the tactical genius went for Heskey & SWP at right back.

He's a good footballer but very much a defender; doesn't get forward much.

Fuck off the pair of you.

I expect this from IBH, who seems embarrassed to be English and needs to decide if he is going to be Welch or Oirish, but you've changed your tune very quickly, Mark. Your celebrations in the match thread when we made it 2-1 suggested you 'gave a fuck'.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Well given the panel have just been saying how difficult it is for defenders to switch positions Jerome made it look relatively easy. Looks composed. Can play center, right and seemingly left. Has a decent pass on him and can take a long throw in. Whats there not to like.

Playing leftback for Germany this tournament has probably been the easiest role in the team - you 'just' play as a third central defender. It's been fairly clear what Loew has been instructing them to do.

Absolute quality.

Playing in his weakest position, looks really good on the ball.

Will be the best right back in the country be the end of the season.

The first glimpse what I saw of him in this tournament was when somebody turned him over easily and made his way into the box. Not good.

Today he looked fine, nothing especial but fine. but who was he marking when Upson headed it in? From what I saw I thought he was the closest player there. Am I wrong?
