Yellow Cards in the World Cup

Are yellow cards collected in the group stages, cancelled as the tournament moved to the knockout stages?

Just read that De Jong will not be risked today as he is a yellow away from suspension. Don't get it, unless yellows are cancelled after the group stages because effectively De Jong is serving a "self impossed" suspension and still is a yellow from suspension, if he doesn't play today.

Yellow cards are wiped clean after the round of 16 matches, the change was implemented to stop players booked in the semi finals to miss the final. However, with the liberal doling out of cards at this tournament, it will have a lot of players missing the rnd of 16 matches.

Yes, Carrager has managed to get 2 already which means he's out of the Slovenia game.

Having said that, he's shit and past it so it could just be a blessing in disguise.
