Barry understands fans' wrath
Gareth Barry understood the England fans' frustration to the Three Lions' disappointing goalless draw with Algeria.
A number of supporters at the Green Point Stadium vented their displeasure at an uninspiring performance from England by booing the side after the final whistle.
And their reaction was responded to by Wayne Rooney, who was heard saying: "It's nice to see your own fans booing you".
However, asked if he understood the booing, Barry said: "Yes, definitely. It is a long way to come out here, they want what's best for us and we do too.
"We want to qualify and they want to extend their stay out here and see us go as far as possible.
"On Wednesday night that is just the small push for us to try and do it for the fans."
Barry, who made his comeback from an ankle injury, admits England must now deliver against Slovenia in their final Group C game next Wednesday.
He said: "It was obviously a nice feeling to finally get out there on a big occasion like this.
"But I am slightly disappointed in the outcome really. We were looking for a bit more than the performance and result.
"The positives are that it is still in our own hands, we will look to Wednesday now to try and improve and win the game.
"I don't think we played with fear. We were confident before the game.
"But probably our attacking did not have enough purpose. We were not lively, we did not take the game to them and probably showed them a bit too much respect.
"We know if we can raise our game we can beat Slovenia."
