I'd prefer Gerry Creaney.

Only if he could play right-back like he did when brought on against Liverpool that time we were 1-0 up. He looked really quality then!

Prefer him to de Jong. At least he has face the opposition goal at some stage in his career.

Ok, I'm going to come out of closet. I think he got rough ride here. I didn't think he was as bad player as some made him out to be. NO, I would not have him back but I think he is enthusiastic lad who has mindframe to have good professional career and I like his style. In fact, now that he isn't playing for us, I REALLY like to watch him.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

that, my friend, is interesting on several levels. And not in a good way. You think having Gelson in midfield would have won you two matches against the league champions this past season? Slag De Jong all you want, but he does a job...and is a good player. Once we've got a couple more pieces, and some focus on where and when he should play we'll be fine and it won't be so easy to slag him off. He might be a one-trick pony in your eyes, but he's the kind that will be on the pitch when we hoist a trophy. I think.

cheers

Man up it was obviously tongue in cheek about having gelson back since it's a knock off of my elano/robi thread.

That said nige is waaaaay overrated by some on here, Barry in his spot
please.

Well Gelson did score a couple of goals for us when playing in the same position that Nige occupies now. Do you think that Nige will ever score a goal for us ?? I don't see it in him.
To be fair to Nige, he does his job well but is 1 dimensional as he brings no attacking value to the team. Our other current DM's, Barry and Vieira on the other hand do get forward , do pass forward and get into scoring positions and also score. So in the absence of a world class playmaker, I would play Barry and Pat ahead of Nige.

sorry if i didn't catch your sarcasm. I had you pegged for Vheroic glory. I'm fine with the argument of having Barry in his spot, but you can't deny that against the right teams, and from what we saw last season the biggest and best, he broke up midfield play better than i think Barry will against those same teams. I can't see them on the pitch together much next season if we get it right.
