Question:Past World Cups

Postby Slim » Wed Jun 16, 2010 7:01 am

I think we have 11 players in the world cup at the moment, but....

Can anyone name for me the City player(s) who played in the 2006 World Cup?

Just had a long conversation with our favourite Kiwi Jock and we could only come up with one name....no, I am not telling you who.

In the 2002 World Cup, one player who even scored but again, cannot think of another player.

David James.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Back up to Seaman(2002), back up to Robinson(2006), don't think he ever played.

Here's an interesting trivia question by the way. Name five English clubs that have more players in World Cup than us.

We didnt discuss that so I'll answer this one. Wanchope. His goal against Brazil was amazing.

He had missed quite a bit of our Keegan season in the Championship but when he did play he was miles above everyone and would attempt to score a goal running the whole lenght of the pitch at his feet. He got so close in a few games in achieving this and then went to the world cup and did it against Brazil.

Scored a tastey goal in the opening game of 2006. By which point he was back playing in Costa Rica.

Oh yeah, I thought it was just about the one's who were in squad.

2002 Sun Jihai definitely went. We had someone else as well but can't remember who.

Edit. Now that I think of it, we had fuckloads of players 2002. Ireland was in competition so Richard Dunne was there. Also, I remember gigling because Lucien Mettomo was there as well for Cameroon.

I will go with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spuds...last one has me cause I am pretty sure the filth only have 9 and we have 11, so I will say Blackburn?

It's actually Portsmouth apparently.

Yeah that'd be right, they have a lot of african players at Pompey, probably not for long though.

Mettomo was def in the squad. That I'm positive about. Don't think he got on the pitch though. I think you are right about Dunne. he did go though.
