Robinho and Elano [MERGED]

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Robinho and Elano [MERGED]

Postby Pretty Boy Lee » Tue Jun 15, 2010 9:14 pm

Simple question, would you have them both back?

How sweet it woul have been to hear that goal described as two manchester city players combining.
Tracking back is overrated.

I'd have the players that were out tonight back.

I'd probably have both back anyway, if they dont come up with the goods then let them go.

No. Let's not get giddy over a decent performance against a team ranked 105 in the world. Come back in a couple of weeks when they have played someone with a bit of calibre.

I loved how tonight robinho because he was playing for brazil he was a world class talent again and not the mercenary, lazy show pony that he always was when he was in a city shirt. Commentators are so fickle its untrue.

Ps. I used to like Chris Coleman but this world cup he has really annoyed me, he gets on like such a cock.

Brazilian's playing in the Yellow and Blue of their nation for a one month period in the summer are a world apart from Brazilian's playing nine months in club colours.

Always said Robinhos game went to pot after Elano left and everytime he plays with him for Brazil he plays better. I still miss Elano though and wish we never got rid, fucking Hughes.

My thoughts exactly. I didn't even think they were great anyway but it was the equivalent of playing a 1st division side over here.

Both of them will have good world cups. Luckily for them it’s held in between May – September. The only months they bothered to turn up for city.

I don't think he is really saying that he wants Hughes back, just missed punctuation.

You on the other hand....

From a coaches point of view tho if they are capable then it's your job to make it happen. Anyone who doesn't think they are capable, robi especially, is mad.

Only a short time ago, I would have agreed with you Lee but now, I'm not so sure.
I see players who appear to be a law unto themselves and are just mercenaries. Quite a number seem to think they are bigger than the club they play for and will play if they think fit to do so.
I feel that Robbie felt (and maybe still does) that he is one of the World's greatest present day players and that a club like City doesn't provide the stage he wants. If he doesn't want to perform to his potential, I can't see any coach making or motivating him.

I hope he proves me wrong and returns to set CoMS alight.

Robinho played well, Elano scored but otherwise did fuck all. That was against a team that wouldn't get in the PL. What basis is that for having Elano back? In place of who?

At least Robinho scored goals & did pretty well in home games in his 1st season under Hughes. Elano had 5-6 decent games under 2 managers. He's not even starring in Turkey ffs. Jo would have done ok v North Korea, perhaps we should get him back?

spot on.
This is the worst part of World Cup. People see players they haven't seen for a while and bunch of players they have never seen before against dodgy opposition. Or players overachieving in couple of games. And draw conclusions. It's what I call 'Lukas Podolski phenomena'. After every tournament his name gets shouted, yet anyone who has seen him in club football knows that in reality over the season he is a shit player. In same way, quality players may be going through a rough spell or may not click with teammates for whatever reasons and gets hammered for it.

Generally I think international football is poor place to scout anyone. Then again, there will be one or two 'Milan Baros' in this competition as well. Just hope we will not be the ones falling into that trap.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

THIS!

Both Robinho and Elano put heart and soul into playing for Brazil, neither have done the same for a club side, any club side. Thats why Elano plays in Turkey and Robihno can't find a club that really wants him. If Kaka was having as much trouble with his club as Robinho has, how many sides would come in for Kaka? Whereas no-one has even sniffed at Robinho.

I still believe he is a world class talent, but no manager has manged to getting him playing regularly to the level he can. Its a crying shame.
