It's quite tough to decide on the "pick" of the bunch

But I'd say that Benjani was Sven's most wasteful use of financial resources

Terrible terrible signing

Sven didnt shower himself in glory with many of his signings. IMHO.

Who else was genuinely bad though? I hated the idea of Benjani signing from the off as many people will remember but I don't think Sven made that many really poor signings all things considered. Bianchi was a decent player but couldn't adjust to life in England. Who else?
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

To be fair he will always be a legend...scoring the winner on the Munich Aniversary allows him to be as shit as he likes for the remainder of his career if he wants...crack open the champers Floella...have some caviar on us...you're worth it...

Thanks for that winner in the derby Benji - what a day that was!

Another signing that didn't do Sven any favours - to go with Garrido, Castillo, Bianchi, Giovanni.... All very mediocre, but in fairness to Sven they were bought in haste.

I thought he'd do a job for us til the end of the season because of the form he was in for Pompey, but it just didn't happen. The system and form the whole team were in post xmas didn't help either.

Farewell oh smiley one!

Bianchi is shit. He had one lucky season in Italy. He found his level in Serie B last season.
Bojinov was unlucky.
Garrido was a decent signing, especially cos he was so cheap.
Caicedo wasn't bad but not great either. Never worth the price tag anyway, never trusted that transfer.
Corluka was a good signing.
Elano great at first but sadly turned into a shit twat.
Geovanni was free I think so can't criticise that really.
Gelson looked promising but ultimately was a bit pooh.
Petrov good signing.
Benjani shit.
Castillo shit.

Overall, Sven's record isn't bad but not great either. Think it would've gone pear-shaped had he stayed longer though. That is in hindsight, cos at the time didn't want him to leave.

He was scoring for Pompey, though. Sven thought he was signing a Premiership Goalscorer.

All I can remember Benjani for is scoring a certain Goal at a certain Ground. It's amazing what you choose to block out due to one good deed...

"Benjani! Whoa-oh-oh
Benjani! Whoa-oh-oh
He comes from Zimbabwe
He scores on Derby Day
Benjani! Whoa-oh-oh
Benjani! Who oh-oh"

As a result of his hating us, Steve Bruce was desperate to get something against us 6 or 7 games back (when his team was close to safety), so made repeated second half subs. He started off with Bent in a 4-5-1 and slowly dismantled his midfield defensiveness, bringing on Kenwyne Jones, Zenden and then Benjani.

Jones terrified us, but didn't seem bothered.
Zenden's lost his legs, so was of minimal impact.
People in the crowd sarcastically cheered Benjani onto the pitch, safe in the belief that the three points were in the bag.

He is so awful, he'd struggle to beat Mido into our first eleven.

Oh yeah and its all Ant London's fault that we signed Midough as well.
