Shay Given has had surgery on his left shoulder and it is hoped that he will be back to full fitness in time for the start of next season.
The goalkeeper dislocated the shoulder while saving Abou Diaby’s shot in the second half of last Saturday’s game at the Emirates Stadium, and underwent a three-hour operation on Wednesday evening.
Early indications are that the surgery on the shoulder and ligaments went well, and that the popular 34-year-old Irish international should be able to begin rehabilitation work soon.
