City to ask permission for Joe to come back [merged]

Manchester City will today ask the Premier League for special dispensation to bring Joe Hart back for the rest of the season.

FIFA and Premier League rules on temporary transfers would normally prevent the Blues from recalling Hart – who again starred for Birmingham against Aston Villa on Sunday.

But City are now without their top three keepers, after Shay Given dislocated his shoulder at Arsenal, and with Stuart Taylor recovering from a knee operation and Hart on loan.

The Blues may be able to ask permission to bring in an emergency goalkeeper on loan, a possibility in exceptional circumstances.

And they will argue that if they would be allowed to bring in a keeper from another club, it makes little sense to be prevented from recalling one of their own keepers from a loan.

They will make out a case that their situation is unprecedented but even if the league's board agrees, it would need a rubber-stamp from FIFA and the agreement of Birmingham and Hart himself to complete the recall.

Given is out for the season, and could even be missing at the start of next season as medical staff assess the extent of his injury.

That would mean Hart is almost certain to be recalled in the summer to be City number one.

But with current number two Stuart Taylor only resuming training this week after a knee operation, the Blues are left with just Faroe Islands international Gunnar Nielsen – with just 25 minutes of top-level experience – and rookie Columbian keeper David Gonzalez.

City's view is that the loss of their top three goalkeepers, two to injury and one on loan, constitutes an emergency.

But the league is likely to point out that Nielsen is a professional keeper, a Faroe Islands international, and played Conference football on loan at Wrexham last season.

there has to be a recall clause in Joe's loan agreement to allow this even to be considered.
From reading around, there is no such clause in the agreement, so the earliest he can come back is the end of the season.
The PL rules do say a loan can be considered in "exceptional circumstances", which are defined as having NO GK in the squad.
Hiding to nothing I'd say.

Liverpool brought in Paul Jones on an emergency loan when both Dudek and Kirkland were injured. Houllier didn't trust their untried youngster (Patrice Luzi - who'd played about 20 minutes of football) with the first team spot.

However it may be that he will have faith in the Viking and just wants cover for him.

Even if we stick with Gunnar, we have no one for the bench. We need another keeper for the last 3 games, if we can't get Hart which I doubt we will be able to, then we need someone who is willing to stay for 3 games, so that will only be a reserve goalie at best
