Volcano news for derby day......

Postby TomS » Thu Apr 15, 2010 7:00 pm

Anybody else in the boat because of possible delayed flights?

We are booked on flight coming in on saturday morning from Bremen, all flights cancelled now ´til noon tomorrow..... Looking into the news (of the volcano thing) every ten minutes now.....

Perhaps there are two seats free :-(

Tom,

I made a reference to my plight ( and my flights !) on the car entry. However, like you we're stuck here in Zürich hoping for the ok to fly tomorrow night. There's no guarantee they can change us to the first flight on Saturday either.

It's typical that the game is at 12.45 ! If the worst comes to the worst , we may even take three cars in a convoy which is a b*gger cos we have to drive home on sunday and would lose all flights !

Now that is one thread title I could never have imagined!

Never thought of how it would affect overseas Blues though, bad news. Some volcanoes carry on erupting for years - what would that mean for the airlines? I bet the ferry companies are crossing their fingers!

You fucler even (may) have a chance by going with train/ferry/boat or whatever they use to cross the channel.

We're stuck here far far away and not looking good.

And btw there's a topic about this in Off Topic forum.

I tell you, once I get enough money to make a pointless trip to Iceland I'm gonna go to the top of that volcano and piss all over it so that it will never ever erupt again.

Fella's, not to sound unsympathetic here but if you can't make it, it might be a good idea to look at offering your tickets to those who could not obtain them, there were a few asking on here. And, at least you'll be there in spirit.

They could even throw a streamer with your name on for you ;-)

Traffic all close. Im working at the Stockholm-Bromma Airport in Sweden and everything is closed now.

The last time this particular vulcano had an erruption it lasted for almost two years. That was in 18xx something. Doesnt sound promising ...

I did Zürich to Stafford some years ago at Christmas in 13 hours, but I was with the family. If like tomorrow it's all footy fans, we'd probably put the foot down through Germany and France . I used to do Zürich to Darmstadt in well under four hours. However then i had a big V8, now it's a V6 diesel :-((

I am now doing the boats, trains and automobile version cause it will be a cold day in hell for me to miss this match, God I hope we win. I have to suffer a night in Holyhead, that is pennance enough!

Sorry mate but I've a shitload of family and friends who are blues. I couldn't justify giving mine to a complete or partial stranger. Also, I seem to remember the tickets were on open sale for a time, so I have a lot more sympathy for myself and some of the other guys than people who might have sat on the fence waiting to see if the game was important enough to spend 30 quid on. I've had my season ticket for nearly 20 years and I'm only in my mid-20s.

Don't mean to sound bitter, I'm just gutted at these circumstances. If anyone lucks upon a ticket thanks to all this, fair play to you. I'd rather we won without me there than vice-versa.

I don't want to piss on your chips but the last time this volcano errupted it cause a neighbouring volcano to errupt which is about 5 times bigger, and that fucker errupted for 2 years............

The derby might be the last of our worries!

I actually use to work on the very same BA 747-200 jumbo which suffered 4 full engine failure in volcano ash.

Its a serious thing, the manual for restarting an engine stated back then that if and engine hadn't restarted by the 3rd attempt, it wasnt worth trying anymore.

On the 15th attempt, 1 engine restarted, which ended up being the difference between ditching and landing on tarmac. Ditching usually means certain death.

That plane had the most freaky atmosphere on board that i've ever experience. It was like the passengers had left feelings on doom on board that made the whole plane very very creapy. (obviously they had replaced all the engines, and I worked on it 2002-2003)

I'm hedging my bets, and may get the ferry across. However I'd rather my money back and have a full day for Villa orSpurs rather than rush around Saturday. The ferry wipes out Townley pre match for me, butmaybe one or two afterwards.
