Anyone rate him? And the other question is, Do we need another striker? lol, Or cant he be played as an attacking midfielder or on one of the wings. He is a quality striker imo and a good finisher!http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528, ... 68,00.htmlSampdoria have played down speculation linking striker Antonio Cassano with a switch to Manchester City.
New City boss Roberto Mancini is a known admirer of the striker, with the Italian thought to be set to use the club's millions to make a raid on Serie A's best players.
But Sampdoria managing director Beppe Marotta insists there has not been any contact from Eastlands.
Marotta told Calciomercato.com: "I have also read what is written in the English newspapers but I can assure you that we have not been contacted nor have we had any news relating to that.
"We know, however, that Mancini worships Cassano, but as for the rest, there have not been any official offers of any type."

Absolute nutjob. Stay well clear.
We have been linked to Cassano under no less than four managers in a row now. Interesting little fact.

An Italian wunderkind, who from memory played under Capello at Roma and caused a few problems. Also at real Madrid...got a temper.
Fact of the matter whether it's Antonio cassano or fillipo berrio, we are going to be lined with everyone Italian.

from all reports has turned his life around and become a leader in the dressing room at sampdoria, where he is playing if I recall correctly.
I'm a big fan of him as a player, magnificent skill.
He did play under capello at roma, and capello has largely been credited with being able to get the most out of him during his young, crazy years. All the skill in the world, if he's got his head on right now, would be an amazing signing. I would have him, but it would take alot of restructuring with the current squad as I think we are a little top heavy, but with only a few real wingers. I wouldn't know where to begin with that. One other problem, possibly, is that I see him as someone who is fiercely italian ... he very much enjoys living in italy and that lifestyle. .. and I don't know how well he'd adapt. That is pure speculation though, no fact in it, just a feeling.
to sum up: I'd have him in a second.

If Mancini thinks he can handle him I'll back his judgement.

Well, I guess I have to give an opinion on him. I still remember fondly the days of him at Roma, the football he and Totti played together was possibly the best I've ever seen (but I'm still rather young, only 24 years old, lol), and yes, he was decently calm under Capello. He became a nutcase once Capello left, even forcing his current manager at Sampdoria, who was at the time the Roma manager for some months, to put him out of the squad because of his bad behaviour. Still, in the worst Roma seasn I can remember, it was a Cassano goal that put Roma definitely out of the relegation dogfight.
At Madrid his good relationship with Capello deteriorated, so he went to Sampdoria where he seems to have finally matured, but the old Cassano is just under the skin, it became evident when the team, after a wonderful start, had a bad patch (still is in it, tbh) and some fans started booing him, he reacted saying things like "if you don't want me, I have no problem going, it happened at Roma, it happened at Madrid, it can happen here too", and having an heated discussion with a fan during training a couple weeks ago.
In few words, talent at its finest, but not worth the gamble imho. With the top class players we have he wouldn't be the "prince" of the team like he wants to be and is at Sampdoria, and this would probably cause him to go nuts again soon or later.
Speaking of strikers, Italian media reckon Mancini might ask Inter for Balotelli, who he rates a lot and who he brought through first, as Mou seems to not rate the lad so much, he has been criticizing Balotelli constantly since he got at Inter.

Some quotes of that Times article:
Because most of us who love football have come to terms, at some time or other, with the fact that we lack the God-given skills to fulfil our sporting dreams, we harbour a natural resentment towards people such as Cassano, men who had the gift but never fully exploited it. And Cassano certainly had — and in many ways still has — the ability to be one of the best players in the world. He has a rare cocktail of physical strength, pace, flair and technique, which is why Fabio Capello’s Roma paid £18 million for him when he was just shy of his 19th birthday, making him the most expensive teenage signing in the world at the time.
----------------
That’s not what managers want to hear, which may explain why Cassano is now playing for Sampdoria, a mid-table team. But he doesn’t mind. Unlike 99.9 per cent of footballers, he isn’t preoccupied with “winning trophies”. “Winning is nice, but it doesn’t make you happy,” he writes.
“The problem is that we live in a culture obsessed with success. We fool ourselves into thinking we have to do our best and make sacrifices to succeed. But why? Trophies come and go. Once you’ve retired, it will all be gone, they’ll just be numbers in an almanac. And, except for [Diego] Maradona and Pelé and maybe a couple others, nobody will remember you or what you’ve won.”
“What is truly important is being happy now. I know I haven’t given 100 per cent physically or mentally to this game. At best, I gave 50 per cent. Maybe a tiny bit more in the good years. But so what? Thanks to my talent, I live like a king, I play football and I have a great time. If I had wanted to give 100 per cent, I would have stayed at Real Madrid, sacrificed lots of things, done my very best and I probably would have succeeded. Instead, I’m here at Sampdoria and I love it.”
Words that would bring most people’s blood to boiling point.

Sums Cassano up perfectly, but another thing he doesn't say but is very true is that he wants to be the absolute star of the team. Of course in a side planning to win things that can't happen as there will always be more than one superstar, so that's why he can't cope with footy at that level.
Rumours were that when at Roma he decided he wanted to be more important than Totti at the club, which is simply impossible considering how Totti came from the academy, was a fan of the club before becoming a player, had been captain for years, etc. This lead to their friendship being broken and him wanting to leave.

Agree totally. Plus he's a complete nutjob and his temperament is a liability on the pitch. No thanks.
