I feel somewhere in the team he deserves a place. We are missing his goals and perhaps his form has not dropped but others need to up there game. Other clubs will monitor this situation and step in if they sniff any discontent from him. He seems a very loyal player but he also seems like a guy who is just happy to be playing. I would love to hear the " You will get your chance when the time is right" conversation from the manager. He is a very important player for City and hopefully will be getting told that by the club.

i love stevie but i wouldnt be changing a team that just deservedly beat chelsea. he will have to toake his opportunity when it next comes around like every other player.

Did anyone else think our decision-making in the final third was better against Chelsea? Sometimes Ireland does something great, other times he seems clueless 35 yards out and passes it through to the goalie - with sickening regularity against Hull. Whether that is down to the other players not reading it I dont know. But it seemed better last week, and if you are the only 'one in step' and the other attackers are out of it, who's in the right?

Steve is a fucking great player...he will get his chance to shine...he's struggled a little due to niggling injury and a change in the way we play this season...but he will adapt and become a better all round player...he's shown complete commitment to this club and has practically pledged the rest of his career to us so we should back him to the hilt..

Not a lot. Robinho was an unused sub against Arsenal, despite us winning 3-0. Ireland wasn't on the bench against Chelsea, so he obviously wasn't fit enough to play. But he played the whole game against Arsenal.

I reckon Hughes will pick a team to beat Bolton on Saturday rather than automatically returning the team that beat Chelsea. This whole thread is pretty detached from reality, "his situation" FFS.

I personally did anyway wonder how do the others feel as he went straight to the starting XI. Well, it's Hughes' job an' not mine to keep lads happy. Glad he seems to have done rather well so far.

Too true mate. I think it would have been a tough decision for Hughes to make if Bellers knees were able to handle more than one game a week. Thankfully though now we're assembling a squad to match top teams like Chelsea, Arsenal and the rags.

Dont know if we watched the same game but thought Ireland was one of if not our best player that day... There is one stick out situation in my mind where someone (tevez i think) laid it too Ireland, Santa Cruz (who cant run at the best of times) calls for it too feet, stevie plays a first time pass and he runs away after looking for it too feet making stevie look like a plank, Robbie was on the same wavelength or "one in step" as ireland last season and these misplaced balls were far less frequent imo

How much has RSC played with anyone on the first team in game conditions? I think it is a learning process. Sometimes players have instant chemistry, like your point about Ireland and Robinho, but not in all cases.

Superman's been unlucky with first of all being played in a role/system that didn't suit and then when he was played properly he looked back to something like his best, only to get a niggling injury. He's a quality, quality player that will be very important for us for years to come...

But he wasn't part of the team that beat Chelsea and therefore, injuries aside, he should start on the bench just like any other player.

I'm torn on the Stevie situation but as for the form not dropped comment I completely disagree. Others do not need to up there game I think that is exactly the problem this season. He shone so much last year as he was one of the best in a bunch of players and the couple of better players we had were not performing well or had not blended in yet e.g Robinho. I think the array of talent we have now has deflated him somewhat and he needs to get his confidence back. As for scoring I am happy we are not relying on him for goals as lets be fair he wasn't exactly banging them in every week (not complaining just pointing it out) and he wasn't doing it with flair either. I am happy with him setting up the goals as that's just as important as scoring.

I also think he got a lot of game time thanks to the whole Elano situation last season, whereas this season he has to get ahead of De Jong, Barry and Tevez a massive difference in quality. He is obviously gonna get less games thanks to the formation and the fact we play a defensive midfielder leaving 2 spots for other midfielders and right now MH spent a fortune on 2 new players who he has to not only justify spending the cash on he has to blend them in. But to be fair he is STILL getting picked in a rotation system so Hughes still thinks he got talent enough for the first team. I feel sorry for Johnson and Petrov myself. Now THEY have something to worry about they have a fucking pecking order and a half lol.
