AHHHHHHH!!!

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528, ... 94,00.html

Manchester City striker Benjani insists he has no intention of leaving the club in January.

The Zimbabwe international has seen his opportunities at Eastlands severely restricted of late, with Mark Hughes splashing out on an array of impressive attacking talent over the summer.

That has left Benjani well down the pecking order, but the African ace claims he is willing to stay and fight for a starting berth.

Reports had suggested that he was a New Year target for Bolton boss Gary Megson, while former employers Portsmouth have expressed a desire to take him back to the South Coast in the past.

Benjani, though, is set to snub the mounting interest after declaring his unwavering commitment to City's cause.

He told Zimbabwean weekly The Standard: "I am not going anywhere and I am going to put up a fight to ensure that I get my place.

"I still have a contract with Manchester City.

"I have had injuries. And every player goes through this phase. It will soon be over.

"I am not bothered about which club is after me because I am still a Manchester City player."

Even in our present predicament, I still wouldn't want him at West Ham. And that is saying something.

Looks like you've got him until the end of his contract.

This off course has nothing to do with the fact that he knows no one will ever come near to matching his curent salary package.

Yep .... it seems that Benji is another one prepared to put cash before playing regular football.

One day, when he is fifty odd, he may look back on how many games he DIDN'T play whilst he languished in our reserves.

Or ..... maybe he won't?

Thought he was a shoe in to go back to Portsmouth this window (I secretly think he wanted to as well) but since they don't get paid from one month to the next and are looking like going into admin sooner or later then Benjani is quite happy where he is.

Agreed Carl!

No doubt he realises he is never going to be good enough to become a household name or soccer legend, so therefore he will soon be forgotten and must therefore make as much as he can whenever he can.

Might be selfish ..... but I'm not going so far to say he is wrong.

I'd ave been annoyed if he's said anything contrary. Good luck to the lad if he wants to stay and fight for a place cos he knows he's well down the pecking order but he's the type of player that could come on and score a few vitally important goals for us off his backside if called upon to do so.

I don't think he'll have much choice to be honest.

"Hey Benjani, I hear Newcastle is nice this time of year, pack your bags boyo."

Shall I compare thee to a Summer's day?

On topic, I remember when he signed he gave an interview that contained soundbites such as "remuneration" and "at this stage of my career". I remeber thinking back then that he'd drag his heels if we ever wanted rid. To be fair, if he turns up, trains hard and stays fit he's got every right to stay. I doubt his gonna make any career move that might hasten his return to Zimbabwe.
