NOT THE FIRST TIME IN A SEMI

It's the rags in the semi...We're well up for it...but it ain't the 1st time it's happened.

27th March 1926...Bramhall Lane, Sheffield...The FA Cup.
In the 1st derby of the 1925-26 season at Maine Rd, a crowd of 66,000 had seen a 1-1 draw. The 2nd derby had taken place in front of 46,000 at the swamp the following January...Roberts(2), Austin(2), Johnson and Hicks sorted the rags on their own middin and City triumphed 6-1.

2 months later the FA Cup SEMI-FINAL saw the Manchester derby transferred to Sheffield's Bramhall Lane.

City were favourites to win and the rags were nervous. The game was reported as grim but I don't suppose that the blues gave a shit how bad it may have been, whilst the rags were left fuming in the 14th minute. George Hick's corner was met by Tommy Browell. The ball beat the rags keeper but was cleared. It was debatable whether the ball had actually crossed the line and also the rags claimed Browell had used his hand. The ref (only 3 yards away) gave the goal and City were 1-0 up.

City swept forward and in the 75th minute, Hicks played a through ball...the rags missed it and Browell scored City's 2nd.

Only 2 minutes later...Roberts mishit his shot but the rag keeper only manged to push the ball onto the post and into the net....

FINAL SCORE...MANCHESTER CITY 3-0 the rags.

Agreed BiB!....wasn't that the one with the Indirect free Kick whilst the game was delicately poised at 1-1?

Shot from Franny Lee, save by Stepney which made the ball active, then tucked home by Summerbee? (if my memory serves)

PS...Goal In front of the Stretty too?

Appears we're both wrong. I thought it was in 73/74, but we beat Plymouth in the semis...

...Also played the Sh!T in 1975/76 at Maine Road. That was where wea beat them 4-0 and Colin Bell did his knee in. It was an earlier round though.

Think I got the two confused. Being a mere 24 years old, my 'recollections' of this period are based largely upon a programme collection from about 1967-1977. The latter of the two league cup matches against the rags is a particularly ming programme design, which is why it's stuck in my head.

To my knowledge that was the biggest derby victory up to Horton in the 90's. We still edge it on both goal difference and away goals.
