Attendances/stadium

Now that we are firmly placed in third in the Premier attendance stats, and selling out against the likes of Burnley and Hull, one of the main arguments ('we should sell what we have first!') for not extending/rebuilding/removing the stadium seems to be disappearing. And as we haven't actually played anyone decent at home yet except Arsenal, we are now in a position of losing potential attendance money this season already, let alone when we get successful.

And Spuds, Everton, Dippers (maybe whenever) and others are sliding out plans to surpass us.

So, I know I bring up this chestnut every now and again, but anyone got any updated sneaky inside info from City or the council?

City will increase the attendence soon regardless,i reckon 65k is a low figure well prolly go more i dont belive for a second all this bollox that its hard to upgrade the stadium the Sheikh and Khaldoon will do it NO DOUBT.Just look at the massive project of Yas Marina that Khaldoon was in charge of,that got built,on time,in budget and is amazing.

The owners arent thick enough to let us get to a stage where our ground is too small,im really excited to see plans of what they will do with the stadium and the surrounding land and how they will do it.

aside from new kit threads, this is my favourite recurring subject.....don't apologise for bringing it up!

It's top that we are finally getting numbers back after the Psycho effect on attendances. Obviously fans are re-engaging on match-days but credit has to go to the club for the initiatives they are taking to make sure that they maximise attendances.

It looks shit when we are on TV and the stadium isn't full (or sometimes...a la UEFA matches half empty) and I'm sure the Sheikh, Khaldoon and Cookie realise that it doesn't do the brand/image of the club much good to be perceived (on TV) to be incapable of filling our stadium. Hence I think the things like kid for a quid for cup games are terrific both from a supporter and also a corporate perspective.

Interestingly, has anyone else watched the CITC/Young Enterprise type video on the OS. The project they had tasked the kids with was something like "strategies for maximising attendances at Category C fixtures at Eastlands". Done in the suite at COMS where they have the supporters' forum meetings and Rigsby along to present prizes to the winners. The club is an increasingly canny outfit.

Back on topic. I'd love us to go to 65-70k

I know it was quoted before somewhere, but how much extra capacity would carrying the top tier around the whole stadium give us?

Villa fans are strange ones. They have had a reasonable start to the season, after a good effort last year and yet attendances are down again. Fickle fuckers.
And it seems attendances overall are down in the Prem. Around 5%.

55k was quoted on an old thread?

We dont always sell out week in week out.

A larger stadium will just mean larger patches of blue seating on the cameras.

Besides would you really rather struggle in the car parks, at the bar, getting to the toilets just because a load of disloyal gloryhunters want to revel in the good times, where were they in the bad...

Keep it as it is, an exclusive club for exclusive fans.

Presumably any increased capacity would involve more facilities. I'd hope they'd manage a few extra piss stones at least!

I dont understand the reasoning behind this.

1. The Met will be at Eastlands by the time the expansion is or isnt done the line is going up as we speak, the rags cope well enough getting everyone in on the met.
2. The extra people wont pile around all the existing bars,More will be available in their stand.
3. Toilet issue ditto number 2.
4. Im not arsed if we get loads more fans as long as i get a ticket and the people who were here in bad times get a ticket and arent priced out.

As it is we have lots of empty seats even in the south stand, if attendances increase it will get busier on the concourse facilities.

A lot of us dont use public transport, I drive unless it is sat 3pm when I make a day of it, car parking is bad enough as it is given the poor exits.

How about we limit attendances to 30,000 just for Sandman? Talk about reverse logic and/or negativity haha!

I think we can assume it WILL happen, toilet tissue supplies permitting, but the questions are what and when??

PS: Average attendances are affected by losing the Barcodes, don't think they're down too much otherwise.

Ha ha, I am not arsed if we get more in, I dont have a problem with it. I just like things the way they are, I hate glory supporters and influxes of fans (like in our return to the prem) I am a miserable old fucker who doesnt like change, I still pine after Maine Rd.

I have been to both Old Trafford and The Emirates on matchdays, they are not pleasant places to be, maybe my view of them shitholes is clouded by the amount of cunts in and around their stadiums and the fact that i've never seen us win in either.

I wonder if they'll let me change my username to Grumpy Old Git

If there isnt any more parking people will have to make other arrangements in this day and age you cant be expected to drive to every game.
Arsenal cope and i dont think they much car parking at all.

Ps if you want that grumpy git username email the lads.

I don't get that....the Swamp I agree with but the Emirates is a mint ground

It's an extremely pleasant place to be IMO.....if you're gonna lose at least do it someplace nice against a decent footballing side

The Sheiks will want our ground used if England get the world cup
The council will want our ground used if England win the world cup, there is no other suitable ground IN Manchester
The car parking issues can be resolved by changing the road layouts so as North and East car parks can empty without having to wait for pedestrians to stop walking across the exit roads and improving traffic flow provisions
The Metro will be up and running as already discussed

The sheiks do not build stadia then use wasteland not built on yet to park cars, they do it profesionally. COMS was built as a traffic free stadium for the commonwelath games, then adapted by a bunch of monkeys to become a football stadium

There cant be thhat many tickets left V Hull,
And although agint less attractive teams a larger stadium would have empty seats, we will definatly sell more than we have at present against the more attractive teams, that and once ( yes I belive they will ) our team gell properly, and results get better ( ie not drawing against the likes of Burnley) we would sell more than the present capacity against the lesser attractive teams also.
I feel an expansion is very much needed .

I've a bit of time on my hands so thought I'd make a table of the average capacity/number of seats to get a percentage, to basically see who is filling their stadium week in/week out. (total capacity taken from wikipedia so don't know how reliable)

Wolves - 99.9%
Arsenal - 99.0%
Chelsea - 98.6%
Man Utd - 98.4%
Spurs - 98.4%
City - 96.1%
Stoke - 96.1%
Hull - 94.2%
Liverpool - 93.5%
West Ham - 93.1%
Portsmouth - 90.7%
Burnley - 90.0%
Everton - 87.5%
Villa - 85.9%
Blackburn - 81.2%
Fulham - 80.0%
Birmingham - 77.1%
Bolton - 76.1%
Sunderland - 75.7%
Wigan - 70.7%

A couple of notes, Wikipedia says, it's possible for Sunderland to increase their capacity up to around 69,500, which they have planning permission for, although judging by the %s, they don't need it.
Villa have planning permission to increase the capacity of their north stand, taking their capacity to 51,000.
Liverpool have put plans on hold for their new stadium, planned to be a 60,000 seater.
Widely reported that Chelsea plan to increase to 55,000 or move to a new stadium
Everton are looking to move to a 55,000 seater.
Tottenham's new stadium will hold 58,000
Blackburn have plans to increase to 40,000 (why?!)
Wolves have future plans to increase to 40,000
Hull plan to increase to 30,500.
Portsmouth, if they're a world cup city, have plans to have a 45,000 seater.

Also, on the random facts front, City have the widest pitch in England, and the tallest floodlights.

Anyway take from that what you will.
