..take advantage of Liverpool's impending financial apocalypse by

A: Put a sneaky bid in For Torres and Gerrard in January?

B: Put a sneaky bid for only one in January (as another couple of chaps being added to the squad may upset the apple cart)?

C: Bid for both/either in the Summer?

D: We are bound for world domination and they've had their chance?

by all means add any further options!!!

I'd offer 70million easy for Torres alone. Surely a cheaky bid come January wouldn't cause any harm?

Nothing will happen in January I believe; however if Liverpool fail to secure 4th place this season then they will have no choice but to sell Torres and Gerrard to keep the club afloat. Interesting times ahead!

Even if Liverpool wish to keep the players, would cheeky bids simply for disruption purposes not be worthwhile, in an effort to derail their own Champions League push?

Look what a mess Everton were in at the start of the season because of the Lescott bid.

I'm not so sure of that. Tighten wage budget, selling off more assets, stadium plans on freeze. They'll do what they can to keep hold of those two players. I can't really blame them/

Do we think that Liverpool would give two fucks about us?
They spent the early part of the season slagging us, belittling us and generally running us down.
All is fair in love, war and FOOTBALL.

Benitez said a week or two ago that he would walk if the Owners agreed to sell Torres...Didn't they try and get Klinsmann to manage not so long ago? ;)

I think we could do some business with Liverpool in January but I think the easiest way to trade with them would be player plus cash deals.

Give them the certainty of replacements in some areas with also some extra bunce to go out and recruit.

For example.....Micah Richards plus 15million for Glen Johnson

Or some players on loan for the rest of the season (Maybe Weiss, Petrov, Benjani) plus 60million for Torres

I think we need to be realistic also, I dont think they will trade with us and will put an embargo on any player making a move between us and them, much the same as they have in place for the rags. They will see us as a big threat and will not want to make us stronger.

Agree with that basic assumption WW

But, and it's a big but, we can write a cheque of the size that solves problems for them (or at least gives them significant breathing room).

I don't think they would sell to us, but I don't think that means that we don't try to do so. Even just for the value of destabilising them somewhat

I think the size of the fee we would need to give them could set them up for a nice few transfers. I would prefer to leave them with what they have and look elsewhere TBH

Yeah I can see where you're coming from with that.....but you have to question how much of a massive fee would go towards recruitment of new players.

I don't disagree with you though

Offer em 90M for both. Cannot see Torres coming but Gerard would come imo. He'd still be local to his roots and if he saw Torres leave then that would decide the issue.

thats true, I would imagine that there would be a massive fall out about where the transfer fee is to be used.

1. They will not agree sale to us to strengthen our squad, we are a threat.

2. They will not want to come to Eastlands yet anyway (instant success is more attractive than our project)

3. I am not sure we need the disruption in their positions at the mo, we have other areas requiring replacement first and we need stability.

But i'd say put the bids in anyway, rock the boat at Liverpool, turn their heads and run up the cost to our rivals.

Well they ain't gonna get instant success where they currently are so it may be an attractive move for them all of a sudden

I very much doubt Gerard will ever leave Liverpool, he would rather take a pay cut.

Torres on the other hand might. But Chelsea and Scum would be all over him if he became available, and no doubt he would head to Scum.

Not sure mate. SCUM - £900M and counting. Chelski - lots of talk but no signings yet, Roman got hit in the crunch. Too busy getting his latest £300M yacht ready. We're talking £70M plus here.

Nearly had Torres in the early summer. Especially if we can keep up the table, City will be the place to go with the money. Plus he might like living up here - softy Tevez didn't want to move his family!

It might be 'over Rafa's dead body', but that wont be long coming at this rate.
