I keep seeing quote after quote from players who either felt forced out of their old club, or want to leave us for pastures new and I just can't help thinking that our money has allowed us to 'hijack' several high profile players - but do they really want to be here?

They haven't actually been quoted. They were both very settled at their old clubs, but obviously moved to us for the money.

I know the press can manufacture these things, but all the links have direct quotes.

Of course all the players are being professional, but maybe we just need that bit more from them. As a squad, they certainly have the potential to finish top 4, but they will really have to want it, every one of them.

Similarly, if things were going swimmingly and someone dangled a lucrative carrot in front of me to move jobs then I certainly wouldn't question my commitment to my new employers or my desire to be there. Indeed, I'd say that I would be motivated and committed to my new company.

Well, for one I don't think Robinho does at all.

In relation to other options - yes they may well have had them, but both our transfer fees and wages were probably way in excess of everone elses which can lead to people making decisions they may later regret.

Look - I don't know whether my comments/thoughts are right or not. I am pretty sure Robhino wants out. With the others I think it is probably more a case of adjusting to new surroundings/team mates.

One thing is for sure though, if we had the same work ethic in the Liverpool/Burnley/Birmingham/Fulham/Wigan games as the opposing teams, then we would all be a lot happier.

I'm not saying everyone thinks exactly the same.....I'd be pretty confident that what I said would hold true for the majority of people though. I'm happy to be proven wrong, I just don't think I am.

True enough re the second point but the only person you could possibly apply that slant to is Robinho. You say that you are pretty sure that he wants out....I'm pretty sure he'll be going nowhere. And there is "evidence" available (in the press) to prove or disprove both beliefs.....I don't think we'll ever really know what's going on, has gone on or might go on re Robbie. I don't really think it's worth wasting time and energy wondering or worrying about TBH

I'm concerned that these players are mercenaries. Being so comfortable financially can breed complaceny and I don't know if some of these people are full committed now.

Mercenaries? Just about all of them are mercenaries. They are footballers who do it for a living...it's the way they earn their wages.

Do you really think that Ireland, SWP and the like signed for City because they had dreamed of putting on a sky blue shirt and fighting for the cause?
Ireland was a rag fan and SWP was rejected by Forest.
I'll bet that Colin Bell came to play for City because he felt it would be a step up from Bury and it would benefit his career.

It is we who are commited emotionally to the cause...we are the supporters.

Do any of us actually want to be at the companies we work for? We do it for a reason and that is to earn money, nothing else. If another company came in for me to do the same job for treble my current wages i would be off like a shot as long as it benefitted me in other ways ie: the family was happy to move etc.
I would still have the same attitude at that new company as i did at the old one and that would be to do the same job to the best of my abilities and hopefully reap the rewards they promised.
We would leave our jobs if we were miserable, unhappy or under-used. Footballers are the same but on a shit load more money than us.

I agree that for the majority of people, if someone came along and offered to triple your wages, we would all jump at the chance - and continue to perform to the best of our ability.

Footballers at this level are a slightly different breed though. Once they become rich enough, money becomes irrelevant and, with such short carreers, they quite quickly look at defining their careers with trophies.

Hopefully we will very soon be able to tick that box as well.

We have different levels of commitment to our work places but truth is if someone came in offering to triple my wages for same job, I'd be off. That's why I work, to earn money. I don't love (although I don't hate my job either, it's alright) my job but I'm delighted to hear my job praised sometimes.

Sitting on the bench is same as when you've been transferred to less important assignments at work. You still get your pay check but you also know that at some stage they are going to try and get rid of you. Same as with Petrov.

World leader in your area of work is looking for a director and your named is being touted. Same as with Robinho.

You've moved to other company to take up pretty similar job but you were formerly employed by bigger company. You were forced to leave because you couldn't get along with boss. Same as with Adebayor.

I am two ways on that mate and thanks for turning a shite topic into something to talk about lol. I think some players do like playing but I agree its rare to find a player who likes playing for their team. Players like Gerrard for example is a rarity I think he really does love it their and loves every game. Though I do think its very rare in the modern game. Their is just too much money involved... Maybe this should be made into another topic? as it would be actually something worth talking about?

You may think this post is negative - I am just trying to analyse why other teams seem to have a bit more desire than us at the moment. The draw at the weekend was a good result, but apart from a 20 minute spell, I thought that they showed more commitment than some of our players.

I think if you look at some of my previous posts, I am far from negative, nor a "whinging fucker", but if that rant made you feel better, I am glad to have helped!
